Demetrius Donald, Michael Hensen, and Bruce Mottern are the first unit to be inducted into the Queens Athletics Hall of Fame, and they bring the total of men’s soccer players inducted to eight. The trio of Knoxville, Tennessee natives were a force on the field for Queens during their time as Royals leading the program to four consecutive CVAC Regular-Season Championships and two NCAA Championship appearances. In their four-year span, the Royals posted a 38-1-2 league record and a 59-11-6 overall record. In 2004, the Royals reached the Sweet 16 and their team scoring offense average ranked 18th nationally at 2.78 goals per game.

Hensen, a center back, anchored the Royals’ defense as a three-year captain tallying 12 points on four goals and four assists in his career. During his career, Henson competed in the most matches of any player in program history playing in a total of 76. The three-time all-conference team honoree was also named to the all-tournament team twice. Additionally, Hensen was named all-region in 2004 and 2005 and earned NSCAA All-American recognition in 2004. Hensen earned NSCAA Scholar All-American honors in 2004 as well.

Hensen still resides in Charlotte with his wife, Jessica, and their two children, Cooper and Reese. He is currently a director of finance at Agile Fund Solutions and coaches Cooper’s U6 soccer team on the side.

The trio has not lost its love for the beautiful game. This past December, they teamed up with other Queens alums and won the North Carolina Men's Over 30 State Championship. In June, the team will travel to Dallas, Texas to represent North Carolina in the Southeast Regional Championship. Mottern also won the North Carolina Men's Open State Championship in 2019 with Queens men's soccer alumni and current Queens men's soccer graduate assistants Alberto Morales ('18) and Omer Okyar ('18).
