Charles Gordon was the first-ever tennis coach hired when the men’s tennis program was added in 1988 as one of the first two men’s sports at Queens. The Royals played their inaugural collegiate season that same year and the following year (1989-90) they posted a winning record of 10-9. Queens followed the first year with two additional winning seasons, posting a record of 14-7 during the 1990-91 season and a record of 13-8 during the 1991-92 season.

After joining the CVAC in 1995, Gordon led the Royals to their first NCAA Championship appearance during the 1998-99 season with 2011 Queens Hall of Fame inductee KoKo Dawood leading on the courts.

Gordon is a graduate of Appalachian State University. He and his partner, Judy, resided in Charlotte until his passing in 2024.
