Royals Hall of Fame
Demetrius Donald, Michael Hensen, and Bruce Mottern are the first unit to be inducted into the Queens Athletics Hall of Fame, and they bring the total of men’s soccer players inducted to eight. The trio of Knoxville, Tennessee natives were a force on the field for Queens during their time as Royals leading the program to four consecutive CVAC Regular-Season Championships and two NCAA Championship appearances. In their four-year span, the Royals posted a 38-1-2 league record and a 59-11-6 overall record. In 2004, the Royals reached the Sweet 16 and their team scoring offense average ranked 18th nationally at 2.78 goals per game.
Â
Donald, playing both forward and midfield during his time at Queens, helped to lead the Royals’ offense totaling 101 points in his career on 37 goals and 27 assists. The four-time all-conference team honoree was named CVAC Player of the Year in 2005. He was also a three-time NSCAA All-Region honoree that totaled 30 points on 10 goals and 10 assists during the 2005 season to earn All-American recognition. He was later named to the All-Time CVAC Team when the conference changed its name to Conference Carolinas. Donald currently ranks second all-time in points, goals, and assists in the Queens history books. He also completed the 2005 season ranked 14th nationally in assists per game (.53).
Â
Donald currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and is married with three children. In addition to working, he coaches his children’s soccer teams.
The trio has not lost its love for the beautiful game. This past December, they teamed up with other Queens alums and won the North Carolina Men's Over 30 State Championship. In June, the team will travel to Dallas, Texas to represent North Carolina in the Southeast Regional Championship. Mottern also won the North Carolina Men's Open State Championship in 2019 with Queens men's soccer alumni and current Queens men's soccer graduate assistants Alberto Morales ('18) and Omer Okyar ('18).
