Royals Hall of Fame
Charlotte native Maria Housiadas Paloumpas is the fourth women’s soccer student-athlete to be inducted into the Queens Athletics Hall of Fame. She started off her college soccer career as a defender but eventually made her way to a striker. In four years, she totaled 67 points on 29 goals and nine assists. Her play on the field earned the attacker two CVAC All-Conference nods as she helped the Royals reach the CVAC Championship Tournament each season of her career.
Currently, Paloumpas sits seventh all-time in points, and fifth all-time in goals. Her two 29-point seasons rank eighth all-time while her 14 goals in 2004 rank seventh. She appears in the top 10 for most goals in a season a second time at tenth place with her 11 goals in the 2003 season. She also ranks ninth for assists in one season with seven in 2003. In 2006, Paloumpas was named Best Senior Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
Paloumpas graduated magna cum laude with a degree in business administration. After graduation she worked as a hedge fund administrator at Pinnacle Fund Administration for 10 years until the birth of her third child when she became a stay at home mom. Paloumpas currently lives in Charlotte with her husband, Dimitri, and their four children, Sotiria (11), George (8), Serafim (6) and Ari (11 months).
