Queens Women's Basketball Adds Jayson Alexander to Coaching Staff

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens University of Charlotte head women's basketball coach, Jen Brown, has announced the addition of former JUCO coach, Jayson Alexander. Alexander comes to Queens after several successful seasons at the junior college level with a pair of powerhouses from Illinois, Illinois Central and Wabash Valley.

"Jayson's energy and passion for growing young people is refreshing", said head coach Jen Brown. "His track record in player development and recruiting is a welcomed addition to our program. More importantly, he's a phenomenal human being who works extremely hard. I'm excited to have him join our Royal family."

Alexander is coming off his first season coaching at the NJCAA Division I level, serving as the assistant coach for Wabash Valley College located in Mt. Carmel, Ill. In his lone season with the Warriors, the team posted an impressive 31-2 overall record, losing just one game during the regular season (the season opener), before rattling off 31 consecutive victories. After winning the Region 24 championship, the team qualified for the national championship tournament and made it to the quarterfinals before being eliminated from the tournament.

Prior to his time at Wabash Valley, he spent five years on the coaching staff of one of the winningest current NJCAADivision II coaches and a member of the IBCA Hall of Fame as a player and a coach, Karrie Redeker, at Illinois Central college. In his five season with the Cougars, the team garnered an astounding 133-33 record, having qualified for the national tournament in four of his five seasons with the team. ICC managed their best season in Alexander's time during the 2020-21 season, where team made it as far as the final four of the championship before being knocked out. The team also broke the record for consecutive wins in a single season during the 2018-19 campaign with 32 in a row.

Alexander also ran his own training business called "Smooth Skills Training", having worked with athletes of all levels (MS, HS, D3, D2, D1 & overseas) both men & women based out of Peoria IL. He was also
Co-DOO of MidPro Academy Women AAU program which was based out of Peoria, IL.

"I feel beyond blessed Coach Brown gave me the opportunity to grow as a coach within her program", said Alexander. "I know there's something special brewing in the Queen City and I'm excited to have the chance to build something special at Queens University. I'm ready to work Royal nation!"

Coach Alexander graduated from Eureka College with a bachelors in Criminal Justice.
