CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte Royals are the fourth seed in the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championships and will host fifth-seeded Newberry College on Apr. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Queens Sports Complex. The Royals received hosted rights for the game at Dicks Field after clinching the fourth-place spot outright on Saturday with a convincing win over Catawba College on Saturday.
Queens enters the game having defeated the Indians, 21-8, over the weekend to close the regular season at 11-4 on the year and 7-3 in league play.
Kealan Pilon totaled seven points on three goals and four assists while
Tyler Ewen added four points on three goals and one assist.
Pat Marks recorded five points on four assists and a goal while
Adam Barry and
Jack Royer each netted two goals. Seniors
Alex Baker,
Brenden Hennessy,
Austin Leonard,
Lawson Sinclair, and
Devon Spencer were able to get in on the action scoring one goal each while
Jack Riddle dished out a pair of assists.
The Wolves enter at 10-6 on the year and 6-4 in SAC action after defeating Lincoln Memorial on Apr. 23 by a score of 16-6. Scott Reed led with four goals and one assist for five points while Curtis Bukta tallied four points on two goals and two assists. Ethan Canning and Miles Jones each added two goals as well.
The Royals are led this season by Pilon who has 87 points on 38 goals and 49 assists. Ewen follows with 75 points on 46 goals and 29 assists.
Baker Westmoreland leads the Wolves with 65 points on 44 goals and 21 assists while Bukta has 54 points on 37 goals and 17 assists.
Queens leads the all-time series with Newberry, 4-0, after defeating them 16-12 during the regular season.
The Royals have advanced out of the quarterfinal round five times since joining the SAC in the 2014 season. A win tonight will advance the Royals to semifinals on Friday in Hickory, N.C. The semifinal game is scheduled to be played at 4:30 p.m. on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University.
