Men's Lacrosse Welcomes Back Tyler Shoults to Coaching Staff

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse head coach Nik Colpitts has announced the addition of Tyler Shoults to the Royals' coaching staff.

Shoults returns to Queens after previously serving as a volunteer assistant with the Royals during the 2023-24 season. He brings Division I coaching experience at the University of Pennsylvania and SUNY Binghamton.

"I am excited for the opportunity to return to Queens University of Charlotte alongside Coach Colpitts and Coach Peters," Shoults said. "This program's potential is extremely high and I am eager to continue to build its foundation. I am looking forward to getting to know the team, building strong relationships with the players and future recruits, and doing my best to put us in the best position to succeed."

Shoults most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania, where he assisted with practice planning, recruiting, scouting, film sessions and individual meetings with offensive players. He also coached the Quakers' man-up unit, prepared and installed openers and set plays, and worked alongside head coach Taylor Wray in preparing riding and clearing game plans. Penn finished 16th in RPI, while Shoults helped coach six All-Ivy team players.

Prior to his time at Penn, Shoults served as the offensive coordinator and first assistant at SUNY Binghamton from 2024-25. He had full control of the Bearcats' offensive unit, man-up unit and transition, while also assisting with practice planning, recruiting, scouting, film sessions and individual meetings. Binghamton earned wins over Vermont and Stony Brook and advanced to the America East playoffs. Shoults also coached three First Team All-America East players.

Shoults began his coaching career at Queens, serving as a volunteer assistant during the 2023-24 season. He managed the substitution box during games and scrimmages, uploaded and analyzed game and practice film using Scorebreak, scouted opposing offenses and created detailed scouting reports. He also coached the scout offense to simulate game scenarios for the starting defense, worked with goalkeepers and offensive players during positional skill work, and served as director of operations and equipment manager.

A former Division I student-athlete, Shoults played five seasons at the University of Richmond from 2016-21. He was a two-time Southern Conference champion and a five-year starter for head coach Dan Chemotti and assistant coach Paul Richards. As a senior, Shoults earned First Team All-Southern Conference honors and was named a 2021 USILA Division I Scholar All-American. He finished his Richmond career ranked third in program history with 54 assists and eighth with 101 career points on 47 goals and 54 assists. He also participated in the USILA Senior All-Star Game.

Shoults began his playing career at West Genesee High School in Syracuse, New York, where he was a two-time First Team All-League Class A honoree, team captain and team MVP. He was also named First Team All-Central New York and an All-Central New York Exceptional Senior.

Shoults earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Richmond in 2020 before completing a graduate certificate in Human Resource Management in 2021.

With previous experience at Queens and Division I coaching experience at Penn and Binghamton, Shoults returns to Charlotte to join Colpitts and the Royals' coaching staff.
