CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (1-3, 0-3 SAC) will be back in action in Charlotte, N.C., taking on Tusculum University (1-5, 0-4SAC) inside Curry Arena Wednesday, Dec.1 at 5:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
-The Royals fell to the Anderson Trojans, 69-53, in their last game on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
-
Kalaya Hall led the Royals finishing with 14 points, three rebounds, and three assists, while
Taylor Stevens added 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Kristy Hamze added nine points and
Mikayla Sink chipped in with seven.
Christina Deng led under the boards with nine rebounds while
Kiana Barkhoff grabbed six rebounds.
ABOUT THE ROYALS
-Queens is currently led by Hall who is averaging 17.5 points per game this season. She also ranks fourth currently in the SAC in points per game. Additionally, Hamze is averaging 10.5 points per game. Barkhoff tops the league and the Royals with 3.5 blocks per game and has a total of 14 so far in the season. She is also averaging 8.5 rebounds per game.
-The Royals opened their season with a win over Emory & Henry. It is the first time that Queens has kicked off their season in the win column since 2015.
-Head Coach
Jen Brown is in her second season leading the Royals. Queens enters the year in rebuilding mode welcoming six newcomers to a squad of nine returners.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
-Tusculum is currently on a four-game losing streak after falling to UVA Wise, 69-62. The Pioneers only win came on Nov. 13 over North Greenville University.
-The Pioneers only player that is scoring double-digits per game is Mya Belton who is averaging 10.2 points per game. She is also the lead rebounder grabbing seven rebounds per game. Jalia Arnwine adds nine points per game while Jordan Rogers avearges 8.8 points per game.
SERIES HISTORY
-Tusculum leads the series with the Royals, 15-3. The Royals will be looking to snap a seven-game losing streak with the Pioneers that dates back to Dec. 2, 2017. The Royals' last win over the Pioneers came on Mar. 25, 2017.
-In their most recent matchup on Feb. 8, 2021, Queens fell 85-54.
Tia McMillian scored nine points, recording three three-pointers, while
Amari Davis totaled eight points.
SAC PRESEASON POLL
-The Trojans were picked to finish fourth in this season's SAC Preseason Coaches Poll while the Royals were voted to finish 12th. Additionally, Tusculum's Arnwine was voted to the 2021-22 SAC Women's Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team.
