Royals Split Pair of Tight Games in Florence

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Florence, SC - The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (7-6) split its Friday doubleheader in a pair of closely contested games on the road. The Royals bested Emmanuel 9-7 before falling short to Francis Marion 4-3.

Game One: Queens 9 Emmanuel 7

On a chilly afternoon, Queens turned an early 2-0 deficit into a two-run lead thanks to three hits in the bottom half of the first inning.
Both teams traded runs often in an offensive display. Trailing 7-5 in the sixth inning, Queens rallied to four runs on a pair of RBI singles from Kelly Winter and Alyssa Strickler to lead 9-7. Relief pitcher Victoria Elder closed out the game earning her first win of the season with a pair of shutout innings to close out a 9-7 victory.

Game Two: Francis Marion 4 Queens 3

Queens went down early surrendering four runs in the second inning in a clean, more defensive outing than game one. Strickler put the Royals on the board with an RBI triple in the fifth and Queens chipped away at the deficit to trail 4-3 with two outs in the top of the seventh. The Royals left the game-tying run on third base and lost by a 4-3 final score.

Queens remains in Florence for a game with Frostburg State at 3 p.m. and a rematch with Francis Marion at 5 p.m.
