THE SHORT STORY
Queens softball put together a strong doubleheader sweep on Friday afternoon, taking both ends of an ASUN twin bill at West Georgia. The Royals opened the day with a gritty 4-3 extra-inning win before backing it up with an 8-3 victory in game two to claim the first two games of the series and improve to 6-17 in conference play.
GAME ONE: QUEENS 4, WEST GEORGIA 3 (8 INN.)
Lindsay Henson continued her standout season with another home run, tying the game in the fourth before Shayna Suttles delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth to lift Queens to the opener win. Addison Kluck tossed seven strong innings, allowing just two earned runs, and Kooper Barnes shut the door in the eighth for her second save of the season. After West Georgia rallied with two runs in the seventh, the Royals responded immediately in extras behind Olivia Thornton's leadoff double and Suttles' clutch base hit.
GAME TWO: QUEENS 8, WEST GEORGIA 3
The Royals kept the momentum rolling in game two, jumping out early and never looking back. Lauren Byrd, Sage Farmer, and Caylin Herring each tripled, while Henson added her second home run of the day as Queens built a 6-2 lead through three innings. Madison Cantoni delivered a key two-run single in the sixth to provide insurance, and Henson was dominant in the circle, going the distance with eight strikeouts to earn the win.
