Queens Sports Performance Clinic a Success

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – The inaugural Queens University of Charlotte Sports Performance Clinic took place on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Queens Sports Complex. The Queens sports medicine staff and Lenoir-Rhyne's exercise science department partnered together to welcome 64 attendees to the inaugural event that featured speakers on various topics.

"The overall goal of this clinic was to provide scientifically based research and presentations while creating an understanding of how they can be interpreted and applied by strength coaches, personal trainers, and others within the health, fitness and athletic performance industries," Queens Director of Sports Performance Mark Lepkowski stated.

Attendees heard from Lenoir-Rhyne's Dr. Keith Leiting on the most effective ways to increase rate of force development, John Wagle on his athlete testing research from the women's volleyball team at ETSU, and many others. In addition, vendors Carolina Fitness Equipment, Bent Bar Strength, and PowerLift were in attendance while Amelie's French Bakery and Pinky's Westside Grill donated breakfast and lunch, respectively.

"We're looking to continue holding sports performance clinics at least twice per year," Lepkowski added. "The sports performance department's goal is to be able to offer affordable, high level continuing education opportunities to individuals in the Charlotte and surrounding areas."
