Weight Room Procedures

Strength and Conditioning Expectations:
The Royals Sports Performance program is crucial to the complete development of the student-athlete. Our goal is to reduce the risk of injury and to enhance the strength, power, speed, and explosiveness of student-athletes. We believe that what occurs in the weight room and in conditioning sessions transfers to competition and life. Work ethic, attitude, accountability, mental fortitude, and teamwork are qualities that can be developed and enhanced through the Sports Performance program.

Expectations:
  •        All team workouts will be scheduled with their respective strength coach. It is the student-athlete’s responsibility to confer with his/her strength coach and head coach if there are any scheduling conflicts for team workouts.
  •        Student-athletes must show respect for other athletes, staff, equipment, and facilities at all times. Athletes should be in the weight room before the start of the training session and be prepared and motivated to work hard. Be sure to return weights and equipment to the proper location following your training session.
  •        Student-athletes must show consistent, positive effort. Athletes may not always jump higher, run faster, or lift heavier during every training session, but can always have consistent, positive effort and attitude.
  •        Student-athletes must have the maturity to study, eat, sleep, and train properly to be successful. This includes maintaining proper nutrition and hydration before and after each training session. If you have questions on nutrition, training, etc., you are encouraged to ask.
  •        Student-athletes must have the desire to improve. It is the goal of the Sports Performance Staff to see you and your teammates improve in life and in sport. More importantly, you and your teammates must want to improve yourselves and each other through investment in yourself and your teammates.
  •        Horseplay, offensive or disrespectful language, etc., are not permitted.
  •        Violations will result in removal from the weight room and further disciplinary action may be enacted.
  •        Enjoy the process, and have fun getting better with your teammates.
  •        Scheduling of the weight room will be at the sole discretion of the Sports Performance staff
Student Athletes:
  •        Notify Sports Performance staff at least 24 hours before in the case of needing to miss a lift for whatever reason
    • Exceptions for emergencies and illness may be considered at the coach’s discretion
    • This rule also applies to sport coaches canceling or adding sessions
  •       All injuries must be reported to Sports Performance staff by athletic trainers and NOT by student-athletes
  •        Each team must return the weight room to the proper setup before leaving
  •        Late arrivals/absent athletes will be disciplined in the appropriate method as determined by the Sports Performance staff, sport coach, and NCAA regulations
  •       Laziness and poor work ethic will not be tolerated. It may lead to dismissal from the session or even a permanent ban in the event of repeated infractions
  •       Proper attire must be worn at all times. This includes, but is not limited to, appropriate footwear as determined by the Sports Performance Coach, no clothing with the logo of another college/university, and shirts must be worn at all times in the weight room
    • Alternate shoes must be brought during the winter months or if shoes are dirty for any reason
  •       Water bottles are permitted; no other food or drink is allowed in the weight room
  •        The Sports Performance staff maintains the right to remove any student-athlete or team for non-compliance, foul language, abuse of equipment or staff, or any other reasonable infraction that they deem appropriate
  •      Return racks to proper setup
  • iPads are for training purposes ONLY
    • Any games, pictures, or other misuse of technology will result in disciplinary action from the Sports Performance staff
  •        Student-athletes may NOT lift in the weight room during another team’s scheduled time or when a member of the strength and conditioning staff is not present
    • Exception: A student-athlete may lift during an open time if a member of their coaching staff is present to supervise the lift.
