Box Score 2 Salisbury, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (19-22, 8-8 SAC) dropped a double-header series against top of the league Catawba College (31-10, 15-1 SAC) on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. Both games would remain close until the Indians' last at bat when Catawba found a 9-1 lead in game one and a 3-2 win in game two.
The first run of the day was tabbed by Queens as
Taylor Rosenbalm jumped from third base after
Ashton Whitaker double down the left field line. Unfortunately for the team, that would be the lone run of the game. Catawba would place two runs on the board in the third inning, but found seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early. Although an error aided, the Indians found five hits in their last at bat.
Lyndey McCurry (7-9) took the loss for the team as she pitched 4.1 innings. She would see six runs during that time but only three earned.
Evie Scott came in for the last out of the game facing three hits and three runs.
Carley Tysinger (23-5) secured the win with three runs in her five innings pitched.
Like the first game, Queens took the first run with Rosenbalm again making her way around the bases. She would steal home off a throwing error to put the team on the board early. The two teams battle through the next three innings with Queens breaking the silence.
Brooke Sanford scored the run finding home plate with a perfectly executed bunt from Rosenbalm. However, Catawba would again come from behind as the Indians found a three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth from Gina Gerone to clinch the sweep.
Scott started the game for 5.1 innings, seeing five hits and attributed two runs. McCurry (7-9) suffered the loss pitching the last two outs.
Tysinger (24-5) was again the lone pitcher seeing four hits and two runs.
Queens will head to Mars Hill on Saturday, April 16, to face the Lions in a double-header series at 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
