Box Score 2 Charlotte, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (16-17, 5-3 SAC) would share the series with Wingate (18-10, 3-5 SAC) on Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Queens would count the first game as a win taking the seven innings with a 2-1 score. Game two saw an 11-1 score, in a five inning game, which went in favor of the Bulldogs.
Wingate opened game one with a single from Naomi Sapp to bring in Jordan Wilson in the top of the second inning.
Hanna Hasker took a walk to first base in the bottom of inning but Queens would not find a tying run until their third at bat.
Taylor Rosenbalm had a simultaneous steal with
Samantha Martinez to put both runners into scoring position. With two outs,
Ashton Whitaker drove a hit into center field to allow Rosenbalm to reach home plate to even the game.
In a defensive game, the teams stayed at one run apiece until the bottom of the sixth. Queens loaded the bases with a walk and a two singles, before brining
Miranda Cummings in to pinch hit. Cummings would win the pitching battle to walk home a Martinez for what would be the winning run of the game.
Evie Scott (6-4) tallied the win as she held the pitching role for 1.1 innings of play. Scott gave up no hits and no runs during her time and added two strikeouts to her record.
Lyndey McCurry started the game for the team, working her way through the first 5.2 innings of the play. She saw four hits and just one run.
Stacey Houser (10-8) suffered the loss for the Bulldogs going a full six innings with six hits and two runs.
Looking to even the day, Wingate started with a grand-slam that came off the bat of Misty Doran in the first inning. The team added three more runs in their next at bat to see their way to a 7-0 lead early in game two. Searching for answers, Martinez reached home plate off a two-error play scoring the team's lone run. The Bulldogs would add a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth innings of play to cap the game at 11-1.
Catelyn Presley suffered the loss as she pitched the first inning of the game in addition to reentering to close out the day. She would pitch for a total of 1.2 innings with seven hits and five runs.
Evie Scott held the spot for the middle portion, pitching 3.2 innings with six hits and six runs.
Rachel Weidner (8-2) tabbed the win as the lone Wingate pitcher. She saw one hit and one run during the game.
Queens will see Anderson on Saturday, April 2, for a 2 p.m., and 4 p.m., double-header series. The games will be played in Anderson, S.C.
