Box Score 2 Jefferson City, Tenn.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team fell on the road to the Eagles of Carson-Newman on Friday, March 18, 2016, dropping the double-header series. The Royals would move to 11-16 overall as they suffered their first conference loss. Carson-Newman would end the game at 16-8 overall and 2-0 in the South Atlantic Conference.
An even stay through the first two innings was broken by an error from the third baseman of Queens who allowed for Shon Jordan to plate a run. However, the Eagles next at bat provided the team the win as Elayna Siebert hit one over the wall for a grand slam to put the team ahead 5-0. The Royals were left waiting on a response until the sixth inning finding answers from
Jasmyn Lindsay who brought in
Taylor Rosenbalm with a single hit to the second baseman.
Ashton Whitaker moved the team one step closer with a three-run homerun over the right field wall. The Queens' effort fell just one run shy as Carson-Newman took the game 5-4.
Lyndey McCurry (6-6) took the loss for the team pitching through the first 3.2 innings. She would suffer six hits for four earned runs.
Evie Scott came in as the relief pitcher to finish out the 2.1 remaining innings, giving up just one hit.
Allison Webster (9-4) tallied the win for the Eagles. She pitched all seven innings for eight hits, three earned runs and seven strikeouts.
Despite finding a run early in the game, Queens would suffer a slow climb by the Eagles who would claim game two, 8-1. It is Whitaker who tallied the Queens run in the second inning finding her way home off a hit from
Taylor Cheek. The lead shortly switched as Carson-Newman put three runners across the plate in the third inning. The Eagles followed with a run in the fifth inning from Kristen Toppel before adding two more to the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth.
Catelyn Presley suffered the loss to move to a 2-6 record. She pitched 4.1 innings for four hits and three earned runs. Scott again came in as the relief pitcher to finish the remaining 1.2 innings for five hits and four runs.
Danielle Kranz tabbed the win for the Eagles to move to 2-3 overall. She pitched all seven innings for three hits and one run.
The Royals will host their next matchup on Tuesday at Park Road Park against the Cobras of Coker College. The game will also serve as the 50 Shades of Purple game to help raise money for Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
