Box Score HARROGATE, TENN. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (2-10, 0-7 SAC) continued their road struggles as they fell to Lincoln Memorial (8-5, 5-3 SAC) 80-66 on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
The Royals were led offensively by
McKell Oliverio who scored a game-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Three other players for Queens scored in double digits as
Carmen Richardson and
Karleasha Thompson each added 13 points and
Erin Brundage put in 12 points in the game.
Queens shot very well from the field as they made 55.6 percent (25-of-45) of their shots in the game and were 4-of-10 from three-point range. The biggest difference in the game for the Royals was rebounds, where Lincoln Memorial outrebounded the Royals 36-20, 17 of which came on the offensive end.
Both teams were locked in to start the game as the game was tied at 7-7 until an Oliverio three pointer at 5:27 in the first quarter sparked the Royals to an 11-3 run to give them an 18-10 lead. Minutes later, the Railsplitters would go on an 11-0 run that extended over six minutes to give Lincoln Memorial a 25-21 lead with 5:43 remaining in the second quarter. The Royals would halt the run and cut the lead to two points (27-25) following a jumper by
Erin Brundage with 4:03 to play but Lincoln Memorial would close out the quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 35-27 lead into the half.
Lincoln Memorial would continue their strong play to start the third quarter as they went on a 12-2 run and jumped out to an 18-point lead (47-29) over the Royals. Queens worked hard to battle back throughout the remainder of the third quarter and into the fourth as a Richardson three pointer cut the Railsplitters' lead down to 13 points (50-43) with 9:44 remaining in the game. Unfortunately Lincoln Memorial wouldn't give up much more slack in their lead as they would ultimately win the game by the score of 80-66.
Fifteen players scored for Lincoln Memorial in the game, led by Ross Mathis who scored 11 points in 12 minutes. Megan Pittman was the Railsplitters leading rebounder as she snagged 10 rebounds to go along with the six points in the game.
Queens gets back on the court on Wednesday, January 13, when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne University in a South Atlantic Conference matchup with tip off slated for 6:00 p.m.
