Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte topped Lenoir-Rhyne University, ranked ninth in the region, by a score of 4-1 this afternoon to pick up their first South Atlantic Conference win of the year. The Royals now sit at 3-6 on the year and 1-4 in the league, while the Bears fall to 5-3-1 on the season and 2-2 in the SAC.
Junior midfielder
Corey Brown was hot today for the Royals helping them take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break. Brown would score the Royals' first goal in the 13
th minute cutting the ball back past Lenoir-Rhyne's keeper before placing the ball in the net. He then put the Royals ahead 2-0 hooking the ball into the back left corner of the net from 45 yards out in the 34
th. Queens' third goal would come when
Austin Huddy headed the ball into the net off of a corner from Brown in the 38
th.
The Bears got on the board in the 55
th when Leon Mueller-Wiesen scored on a penalty kick, but the Royals would increase their lead back out to three before the end of regulation on a goal from
Marc-Kevin Schwenk in the 89
th.
Austin Clamon tallied the assist on the play.
Both Queens and Lenoir-Rhyne took 12 shots today, with the Royals leading in shots on goal, 7-5.
Ben Wallace took the win in goal after collecting two saves in the first half.
Matt Current played in the net during the second half totaling two saves as well.
The Royals are back in action on Wednesday at Catawba College. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
