Second Half Surge Lifts Lipscomb Over Queens

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A furious second half rally fueled the Lipscomb Bisons over the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team as the Royals fell in a tightly contested 3-1 match on Saturday (Sept. 5) at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the 33rd minute off a counterattack, Queens was able to push the ball down field and create a scoring opportunity. Isaac Chromey and Iker Carew found space on the left side of the field and placed the ball perfectly at the feet of Luis Vera Mayorca who scored his third goal of the season to give Queens a 1-0 lead before the halftime intermission.

Lipscomb's adjustments took immediate effect in the second half as the Bisons outshot the Royals eight to six, and were able to even the score in the 51st minute when Nathan Tozzi was called for a foul in the box on Lipscomb's Yohan Franchi, setting up a penalty kick. Yonis Kireh took the opportunity for the Bisons to tie the match at 1-1.

Later in the 67th minute, Lipscomb took advantage of another Queens foul in the box as Valter Salavuo and Cole Pumpian collided with James Pidutti to give Lipscomb another penalty kick. Pidutti converted on the chance for the Bisons to give them a 2-1 lead. Jorge Morejon's unassisted goal in the 85th minute proved to be the icing on the cake as the Royals came up short 3-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener.

Both teams finished the match with 13 shots, three saves, and two corner kicks each. Queens was called for 25 fouls compared to Lipscomb's 18.

UP NEXT
The Royals will return home on Tuesday (Sept. 8) for a non-conference match versus William Peace. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
