Pineville, Ky. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's cross country team dethroned Mars Hill on Saturday, October 24, 2015, snapping an 18 year streak from the Lions as the men claimed the South Atlantic Conference Championship. Catie Byrd claimed the SAC Runner of the Year for the women, as Queens placed second in the conference with Byrd topping the race.

Josa Rosas took Freshman of the Year as Coach Jim Vahrenkamp took Coach of the Year for the men's team. The men's team would score 34 points to top the standings with Mars Hill taking second with 44 points and Anderson grabbed third with a score of 151.

On the women's side, Queens would take second with a score of 64. Wingate took the title for the third straight year with a score of 37 and Anderson took third with a score of 74.

"What an outstanding feeling to break the 18 year streak of championships by Mars Hill this weekend" saidCross Country Coach Tsehaye Baney. "I watched my guys leave everything out there from start to finish and I could not be any happier with today's performance. Our freshmen class has really come through for us and today's win is a testament to a team effort."

Yannick Stubbe posted the top time for the Royals with a second overall finish running a 25:18.8 for the 8k race. Jimmy Hollingsworth finished fifth overall with a time of 25:38.6 to cross second for the team. Queens took three spots in a row as Jose Rosa, Elijah Inuwa, and Henno Havenga finished the scoring runs, respectively. Rosas would cross with a time of 26:10.4 for an eight place finish for a personal best. Elijah Inuwa took ninth with a personal best as well taking a 26:14.4 time while Henno Havenga took the last scoring run with a 26.20.2, tenth place finish.

Also running on the men's side was Ben Schmidt who took 13th place with a 26:27.1 and Avery Cypress who took 19th overall with a 26:49.4. Justin Weegar crossed with a 27:01.4 for 25th place and Alex Guilluame crossed with a 29:21.6 for 72nd place.

For the women's performance, Coach Baney stated, "Today was a great win for Catie Byrd; she ran very relaxed and calm throughout the race leading the team to a second place finish. We faced some adversity this weekend and it was heartening to see the girls go out and try to win the championship regardless. Because we defeated Anderson, we will likely move up in the regional rankings and still have the opportunity to make it to Nationals in a couple of weeks."

On the women's side, Catie Byrd took the Runner of the Year Award claiming first place with an 18:17.1. Summer McFadden ran a 19:20.3 for 10th place overall for a personal best. Megan Delamer crossed in 17th place scoring 16 points for the team. Her time was 19:47.7 for the 5k race. Louise Hill-Sterling and Sarah Bomkamp were next to cross for the Royals as the two took 19th and 20th overall, scoring 18 and 19 points respectively. Hill-Sterling ran a 19:55.8 while Bomkamp ran a 19:56.4. Bomkamp would be the last scoring run for the team.

Also running for the team, Hannah Wolkenhauer took 30th overall with a 20:28.4, Carissa Jenkins took 43rd with a 21:00.2, Regan O'Hara took 65th with a 21.58.4, and Shelly Oh took 80th with a 23:02.7.
