Richardson leads Queens on the National Stage

Box Score Charlotte, N.C. – Although it would be a record night for Carmen Richardson who took 25 points off the floor, Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (5-12, 3-9 SAC) would be unable to match the Anderson University (13-3, 10-2 SAC) offense falling to the Trojans 66-53. The two teams debut on CBS Sports Network on Saturday, January 24, 2015, for the Royals first televised game.

Richardson's career high in points was only furthered by her performance at the line hitting seven of her nine attempts. Lacey Singletary reached into the double-digits for the game as she found 12 points. However, the two would be unable to hold off the Trojans as Jennifer Moore found eight baskets in her 19 point night. Costly turnovers would sway the game as Anderson took 11 steals leaving the Royals looking for offensive rhythm.

A slow start to the game put the Royals in bad position as Anderson put together a 16-2 drive, burning the first seven minutes of the game. It would be a slow climb but Queens forced its way within five with Erin Brundage stepping to the line to hit a free-throw. Brundage followed up a few plays later to grab a basket with under two minute to play giving the team their closest score of the first half at 24-22.  Richardson worked with 45 seconds left on the clock to put one last basket in before a 29-26 split led the teams into half.

Anderson found a nine point gap six minutes into the second half as Lesley Woods posted a shot from outside the arch. Again, however, Queens worked the score down to three as Richardson again was the answer, finding room under the basket for a 43-40 score. As Queens stayed within striking distance for the next four minutes, Karleasha Thompson made back-to-back free throws bring the game down to a single point. As the teams came to the last five minutes, Anderson took control launching out into a double-digit lead to cap the game.

The Royals will travel to Newberry College as they battle the Wolves on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.
