Box Score Hartsville, S.C. - Queens University of Charlotte (0-5, 0-3 SAC) women's basketball dropped to Coker College (1-4, 1-2 SAC) on Saturday, November 25, 2014, tumbling to the Cobras 83-53 in the Royals first game on the road.
Although
Abby Pettit took the first basket giving the Royals the 2-0 go-ahead lead to start, Queens would trail for the remainder of the night. Pettit announced her presence early sinking the next two baskets before
Lacey Singletary moments later followed up with a layup to tie the game at 8-8 with 14:59 left in the first. The Royals would remain within two possessions forcing Stenson to make a shot from outside to the arch to give the Cobras their first seven point gap (17-10) with 11:50 on the clock. Queens found a way to knock down shots, however Coker found responds inhibiting the Royals to make up ground. It was not until a 6-0 run with under four minutes left in the first that the Cobras truly found momentum building into a 37-25 lead. Coker closed the first building a 46-30 game for their largest point gap.
The Royals again took the first points of the half, this time with
McKell Oliverio putting up a jumper but a 9-0 Coker run would be the response. Queens established points but were unable to stop the Cobras, who forced the Royals to remain at arm's length as the game fell to 58-40. A defensive stalemate ensued the second half with
Carmen Richardson making the lone point, sinking a free-throw within the six minutes span (60-41) before Kelley Godbout broke the silence starting a 13-2 Cobra run. Coker would hold this lead until the end as the game closing 83-53.
Both
Abby Pettit and
Sheridan Pressley took 12 points in the game to lead the Royals' offensive charge with
Nikki Gleason furthering the team with 11 points. Controlling the offense, Pressley distributed six passes for Royals points, tying
Karleasha Thompson for six assists on the night.
The Cobras offense fell at the feet of Tanesha Stenson and Kiara Shoats who shared the team's high of 21 points apiece. Stenson's command of the floor was complimented with a double-double attributed to 15 rebounds.
The Royals head back home after the break to host the Sabers from Barber Scotia College.
