Royals drop two to Saints

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Queens softball team traveled to Gaffney today to take on conference rival Limestone College. The Royals were unable to pick a win, and dropped game one by the score 4-1 and the second 4-3.

Game one

In the first game both teams struggled with their offenses and were onlyable to pick up four hits. On the mound it was Lyndey McCurry (Commerce, Ga., Hebron Christian) and Kaitlyn Bodine (Scottsville, Va., Monticello) who combined to limit the potent Saints offense, but they could not stop Limestone from scoring four in the fourth.

The Royals one run came in the first inning when Kaitlyn Cheek (Richmond, Va., JR Tucker ) knocked in Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) with a single to third base.

Game two

The second game of the double header proved to be a much tighter affair. Like game one the Royals scored first when Cheek powered a three run to centerfield.

But the Royals were unable to score any more runs, and the Saints were able to equalize in the third. With the game tied 3-3 Limestone scored the game winning run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.

Ashley Rollins (Fairfax, Va., Fairfax) went five and one third innings, and only gave up three earned runs on six hits.

The Royals play next this Saturday when they travel to King College. Queens is currently 13-18 and 4-6 in conference play.
