Softball's season ends in loss to Limestone

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
HARTSVILLE S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team took on both Erskine and Limestone at the Conference Carolinas softball tournament today. While the Royals were able to pull of a 4-2 win against Erskine, they eventually fell to Limestone 3-0.  With that loss they were eliminated in the semifinal round of the tournament.

In game one it was the Royals' offense that got out to a hot start by scoring four runs in the first inning.  In the game the Royals were led by the hot-hitting freshmen duo of Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) and Shelby O'Brien (Navarre, Fla., Homeschooled). It was Britt who gained the first RBI's of the game with a two run homerun, and O'Brien quickly followed with a two RBI double to give the Royals their four runs in the game.

While the Royals' offense sputtered following the first inning it was the steady pitching of Chantel Dodge (Shalimar, Fla., Choctawhatchee) who carried the lead for Queens. In the game Dodge only allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out eight Flying Fleet batters.

In game two it was Dodge who once again took the circle for Queens. In the game against the Saints she only gave up seven hits and three runs, but the offense struggled to give her the needed run support.  The Royals failed to cross the plate, and were only able to muster up six hits in the game.

The Royals complete the 2012 campaign with a 30-24 overall record, and a 16-5 record in conference.
