Queens falls 18-9 to No. 5 Saints

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte falls to 1-1 in Conference Carolinas action after losing 18-9 to No. 5 Limestone College. The Royals are currently on a four-game skid and now sit at 4-6 on the season, while the Saints improve to 9-1 (2-0 CC).

The Royals were able to keep things close going score for score with the Saints in the first half. With 4:45 to play, Brittany Barnwell (Lorton, Va., Bishop Ireton) netted a goal to give the Royals a 5-3 lead. The Saints would go on a 3-1 run to knot things up at the break, 6-6.

The second half was all Limestone as they were able to put 12 points on the board to Queens' three. The Saints went up two, 8-6, seven minutes into the second before Shannon Casey (Bel Air, Md., John Carroll) brought the Royals to within one blasting the ball into the net. Sylvia Queener of Limestone would get hot notching back-to-back goals at the beginning of a 6-1 run that would put the visiting Saints up 14-8 with 14:36 left to play. Brittany Philip (Corning, N.Y., Corning East) scored Queens' final goal of the game at the 12:04 mark after Casey found her cutting to the cage. The Saints would follow with four more to close things out for the win.

Barnwell led the Royals with four points after scoring three goals and notching one assists. She also collected five draw controls to lead Queens. Casey tallied three points, one goal and two assists, while Kristi Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Winter Springs) and Philip each scored two goals. Kemp led the Royals with three caused turnovers. Taking the loss in the net was Chelsea Lancashire (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Nease) who totaled nine saves.

Sarah Oor led the Saints with seven points on two goals and five assists. Racquel Prager was right behind her with two goals and three assists for five points. Chelsea Treat and Queener finished with four goals apiece. Rashelle McLellan was awarded the win in goal after getting four stops.

The Royals are back in action on March 28 at Belmont Abbey College. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
