DELAND, FLA. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team picked up its third win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Stetson 11-9 on the road. With the win, the Royals improve to 3-9 overall, while the Hatters fall to 2-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Queens struck first in the opening quarter with a goal from Kourtney Goff, but Stetson responded with three consecutive scores to take a 3-1 lead. The Royals answered late in the period as Alyssa Hartis found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 3-2 heading into the second.
The Royals took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Hatters 4-1 to build a 6-4 lead at the break. Kayleen Favreau led the charge with two goals in the period, while Michela Paterson and Isabella Swanson each added a score to swing the momentum in Queens' favor.
Queens continued its strong play in the third quarter, holding Stetson scoreless while adding three more goals. Goff, Favreau, and Anna Bednarz each scored during the stretch as the Royals extended their lead to 9-4 heading into the final period.
Stetson made things interesting in the fourth quarter with a 5-2 scoring advantage, trimming the deficit to as little as two late in the game. However, Queens came up with timely responses, including goals from Lexy Stevenson and Bednarz, to hold off the rally and secure the 11-9 victory.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Kayleen Favreau led all scorers with four points on three goals and one assist, while Kourtney Goff and Anna Bednarz each added two goals. Favreau secured her 200th career goal, the first Royal in program history to do so.
- Lexy Stevenson contributed one goal and two assists, and Alyssa Hartis added a goal and an assist. Michela Paterson and Isabella Swanson also found the back of the net for the Royals.
- Defensively, Molly O'Donnell anchored the effort with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Queens controlled possession efficiently, going a perfect 19-for-19 on clears and holding a 23-14 advantage in ground balls.
- Gianna Coburn earned the win after allowing four goals in the first half, while Devan Maready recorded two saves in the second half to help close out the victory.
