CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Marissa Hudley (Charlotte, N.C., Harding University ) erupted with 25 second half points to finish with 31 points total leading the Royals past Conference Carolinas opponent Coker College this evening at Ovens Athletic Center. Queens University of Charlotte (7-4, 8-9) defeated the Cobras (2-8, 2-14) 71-49.
Hudley recorded a double-double grabbing 13 rebounds to go along with her 31 points. She now sits atop the Queens All-Time Leading Scorers list with 1,644 points passing Sequoya Friday (1,642) on the women's list and Chris Benson (1,628) on the men's list. Hudley scored the point on a cross over move to the paint pulling up over her defender to sink the basket with 2:27 remaining in the game.
After both teams got off to a sluggish start offensively, it seemed as if Hudley would have a quiet night. Coker's 29.6 first half field goal percentage was just slightly better than Queens' 28.6 as the score at the break sat at a low 26-21 in the Royals' favor.
Hudley opened the second half scoring 10 of Queens 12 points in a 12-2 run making it obvious that she was on a mission. She continued putting on a show throughout the half slashing through the lane past the defense scoring point after point for the Royals. Her aggressive play led her to the foul line a number of times where she knocked down 13-15 for the night.
Sarah Myatt (Burlington, N.C., Alamance) entered the game at the 11:45 mark providing the Royals with another spark on the offensive end scoring a career high 11 points in just six minutes of play.
The Royals never looked back riding Hudley's hot hand all the way to a 26 point lead, their largest of the game, with 1:19 on the clock.
Queens improved their shooting percentage to 58.6 in the second half giving them a 44.6 field goal percentage for the game. The Royals' bench outscored Coker's 24-to-10 in the win.
Leading the Cobras were Janell Dunham and Jasmine Alston who each netted 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
