HIGH POINT, N.C.- Conference Carolinas announced the 2010 women's lacrosse All-Conference Teams this afternoon and Queens University of Charlotte is pleased to have four student-athletes represented on the list. Senior Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn. , Robinsdale Cooper ) was named to the first team while senior Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md., North Carroll ), junior Caitlin O'Rourke ( Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs ), and sophomore Brittany Philip (Corning, N.Y., Corning East) were named to the second team.
Conference Carolinas All-Conference Women's Lacrosse Teams were determined by vote from each head coach of participating institutions. Nominations were collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine First Team, Second Team, Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year award winners. Awards will be presented at the Conference Tournament Championships hosted by Queens University of Charlotte at this weekend's conference championship. Semifinal games will be played Saturday and the championship final Sunday at the Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park.
For Duffey, this is her third time in as many years being named to the all-conference team. It is her second time making the first team. Duffey completed the regular season with 36 goals and 48 assists for a total of 84 points. She has been ranked in the top five in the nation in assists the entire season and was as high as the number one spot for a few weeks. Duffey is also ranked fifth in the nation in assists per game with 3, and third in the nation in points. She heads in to the Conference Carolinas Tournament six points shy of 300 for her career.
This is Markle's first time being honored on the list in her career at Queens. The senior goal keeper started in 15 games this season, and is ranked first in the nation in saves with 178. She finished the regular season with a .455 save percentage making 11.87 saves per game.
O'Rourke is being honored for the first time in her career as well. She had her best season yet scoring 26 goals. O'Rourke netted the game winning goal in the final home game of the regular season against Pfeiffer University. She also scooped up 27 ground balls, had
19 draw controls, and had 10 caused turnovers in the regular season.
Brittany Philip is being named to the All-Conference team for the first time also. She led her team in goals this season with 38. Philip is also leading the team and is ranked 15th in the nation in draw controls with 54. She is ranked second on the team in ground balls with 38.
