Royals Clash with Catamounts in Home Opener

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (1-1) hosted the University of Vermont (0-1) in their home opener this afternoon, falling 17-8 to the Catamounts in the nonconference game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Catamounts got going early, scoring five unanswered goals in the opening quarter. Vermont then scored in the opening minute of the second half to increase the margin to six before the Royals' defense slowed their attack.

A goal from Will McKay with 8:37 on the clock would be the first on the day for the home team, and two more goals followed as the Royals cut Vermont's lead to three points, 6-3, with 5:09 on the clock. However, the Catamounts put two more balls in the back of the net to take an 8-3 lead into the halftime break.

Vermont took control in the third, using a 6-1 run to stretch the margin to 10, 14-4. Queens' Carter Petersen closed the period with back-to-back goals to help Queens pull within eight heading into the fourth, but that would be as close as the Royals would get to the Catamounts before the final horn sounded.
