Royals Look to Defend Home Court Against North Florida

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens remains at Curry Arena on Saturday as it welcomes North Florida in the middle of a four-game homestand. The Royals have played their best basketball at home this season, posting a 4–2 record. Sophomore forward Brenae Jones- Grant has been the focal point, leading the conference in both field goal percentage and rebounding, while veteran guards Ana Barreto and Jermany Mapp continue to stabilize the offense and provide scoring punch.

THE MATCHUPS
Queens and North Florida have met five times since January 2023, with the Royals leading the series at 3-2. The teams have played tightly contested games in Jacksonville, where the Royals have earned three road wins, including an 84–81 overtime victory in the most recent meeting on Jan. 23, 2025. North Florida has won both matchups in Charlotte, including a 76–57 decision in 2024. Two of the five meetings have been decided by single digits.

SCOUTING THE ROYALS (7–7 overall, 1-2 ASUN)
  •  Queens enters the matchup averaging 61.1 points per game, pairing perimeter volume with interior efficiency. The Royals are connecting on 36.1 percent from the field and 33.4 percent from three, making just over seven three-pointers per contest.
  • The Royals continue to be active on the glass, averaging 39.1 rebounds per game, with consistent production on both ends of the floor. Queens has recorded 40-plus rebounds in seven outings.
  • Defensively, Queens relies on effort and activity, producing 7.1 steals and 3.3 blocks per game. The Royals have held opponents under 50 points in five games this season and forced double-digit turnovers in every contest this season.
  • Brenae Jones-Grant remains the focal point in the paint, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding at 13.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. She currently leads the ASUN in field goal percentage and rebounding, shooting 57.4 percent from the floor while ranking among the conference's most efficient interior scorers.
  • Ana Barreto sets the tone on the perimeter, averaging 11.6 points per game and leading the roster with thirty-five made three-pointers. She also ranks among the team leaders in assists and minutes played, providing steady production on both ends.
  • Jermany Mapp continues to be a key piece in the backcourt, contributing 9.9 points per game while shooting 90.3 percent from the free-throw line. Mapp (900 career points) is closing in on the 1,000-point mark for her collegiate career, a milestone within reach as conference play continues.
  • Dayuna Colvin serves as the primary distributor, pacing the team with forty-two assists while adding 8.3 points per game.
SCOUTING THE OSPREYS (5-9 overall, 0-3 ASUN)
  • North Florida enters the matchup at 5–9 overall and 0–3 in ASUN play, averaging 61.0 points per game while allowing 74.6 points per game.
  • The Ospreys shoot 39.7 percent from the field and 29.1 percent from three, connecting on 6.8 three-pointers per game. They convert 70.8 percent at the free throw line, averaging 8.5 made free throws per contest.
  • Rebounding has been a challenge, as UNF averages 32.1 rebounds per game and carries a –7.5 rebounding margin.
  • Dezuray McGill leads the scoring attack at 10.1 points per game, shoot­ing 55.6 percent from the floor, while also contributing 3.4 rebounds.
  • Alonya Waldon adds 9.3 points per game and leads the team in assists, while Jamisyn Stinson provides perimeter volume, averaging 8.4 points and ranking among the team leaders in three-point attempts.
  • Elle Blatchford has emerged as a reliable inside-out scorer, averaging 7.4 points per game while shooting 51.3 percent from the field and 44.7 percent from three.
  • Defensively, North Florida averages 7.9 steals and 3.1 blocks per game, but opponents are shooting 44.4 percent overall and scoring consistent­ly across all four quarters.
