CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte head men's and women's cross country coach and assistant track & field coach
Will Crocker has been promoted to director of track & field, Queens Director of Athletics
Cherie Swarthout announced today.
"Will did a great job with our cross country teams in the fall and I have been impressed with his leadership when asked to act as director of the track & field programs since February, Swarthout stated. "When he came to us ahead of the cross country season, he knew we had a strong history of success with our track & field programs and was ready to contribute to that. I look forward to our teams continuing to improve with him at the helm moving forward."
The Royals recently wrapped their outdoor season at the ASUN Championships with the women capturing their highest finish, taking fourth place while the men earned sixth place. The Royals also had a great showing at the ASUN Indoor Championships, securing fourth place on the women's side and seventh on the men's. In total, the men brought six medals back to the Queen City, and the women totaled 12 medals.
"I am extremely honored to take over as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at Queens," Crocker commented. "I know that this University had a lot of success in both track & field and cross country while at the DII level and my goal is to continue to evolve this program to a point where we are consistently competitive at the DI level both in the ASUN and nationally. We had a great end to our season at the ASUN Conference Championships, and I am looking forward to leading our team into more success in the future."
Crocker joined the Royals in August after serving as the assistant cross country and track & field coach at University of Illinois-Chicago. Under his guidance, his athletes broke four school records and set 27 new top ten all-time performances in track & field. His influence was equally felt in cross country, with two school records and 10 new all-time performances, including coaching the 2021 Cross Country Horizon League Individual Conference Champion.
Crocker made his mark at Westminster College, where he founded both the men's and women's track & field and cross country programs. His leadership led to 12 all-conference athletes and an NCAA DIII National Qualifier.
Crocker also served as an interim assistant coach and volunteer assistant coach at Charlotte, where he was instrumental in overseeing middle-distance workouts, coordinating training plans, and assisting with scholarship allocations and team travel planning for the 49ers.
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Crocker was a student-athlete at the University of Missouri. He was a three-time All-SEC honoree and the 2015-16 cross country/track & field team captain.
