Royals Set for Homecoming Clash Against ASUN Newcomer West Georgia

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens continues its three-game homestand on Saturday with a Homecoming showdown against ASUN newcomer West Georgia. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. in Curry Arena.

THE MATCHUPS
This is the first meeting between the Royals and ASUN newcomer West Georgia Wolves.

Saturday's game carries major postseason implications, as Queens and West Georgia are currently tied for 10th place in the ASUN standings. A win could put the Royals on track to secure their first-ever ASUN Tournament berth since joining the league in 2022-23. Meanwhile, if West Georgia qualifies, the Wolves would become the first first-year-eligible team to reach the ASUN Tournament since North Alabama in 2019.

SCOUTING THE ROYALS (7-13 overall, 1-8 ASUN)
  • Queens is currently sitting at 2-9 in the conference (8-14 overall).
  • The Royals 52-43 win over Austin Peay was a historic one for the program, as it matched the most wins in the Division I era set in the 2022-23 season and surpassed last season's ASUN win total.
  • The Royals secured their second conference victory of the year with a dominant defensive performance, holding Austin Peay to just 17 first-half points and 26.2 percent shooting from the field.
  •  Aylesha Wade has been a key contributor for Queens over the last five games, stepping up her production as the team looks to finish the season strong. During this stretch, Wade is averaging 12.6 points per game, an increase from her season average of 9.1 PPG. Wade has also been more aggressive offensively, shooting 41.3 percent from the field while knocking down eight three-pointers in this span.
  • Ana Barreto has been a steady contributor for Queens throughout the season, particularly in ASUN play. Barreto is averaging 9.1 points per game in conference action, providing the Royals with a consistent scoring presence. The Lisbon, Portugal native has been one of the team's most reliable three-point shooters, knocking down 33 threes this season.
  • Kemia Ward has been a key presence in the paint for Queens, making an impact on both ends of the floor. The junior forward is averaging 6.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while also leading the team in blocks with 39 on the season. Ward currently ranks second in the ASUN in blocks.
  • Queens has also been active on the defensive end, recording 183 steals (8.3 per game) and averaging 3.1 blocks per game, making them a disruptive team at times.
  • One of Queens' strengths has been rebounding, where they hold a plus 1.3 rebounding margin over opponents. The Royals average 37.9 rebounds per game, compared to 36.6 for opponents, showing their ability to compete on the glass.
  • The Royals have managed to force opponents into mistakes, with their opponents averaging 19.1 turnovers per game, giving Queens a plus 1.5 turnover margin.
 
SCOUTING THE WOLVES (8-14 overall, 2-9 ASUN)
  • West Georgia women's basketball dropped their third straight contest on Wednesday, falling 92-75 to Lipscomb on the road.
  • The Wolves currently hold a 2-9 conference record (8-14 overall), with their ASUN wins coming against Eastern Kentucky and North Florida.
  • Offensively, they average 69.3 points per game in conference play but allow 79.0 points per game.
  • West Georgia is shooting 40.6 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from three-point range, while opponents have shot 45.6 percent overall against the Wolves.
  • Rebounding has been an area for growth, as they average 36.0 boards per game while allowing 38.1.
  • The Wolves commit 16.4 per game compared to their opponents' 13.7.
  • Zuriyah Davis is West Georgia's top scorer, Davis is averaging 14.2 points per game in ASUN play while shooting 37.8 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from three-point range. Davis also logs heavy minutes at 33.7 per game.
  • Guard Sydne Tolbert is a steady offensive contributor at 11.2 PPG, Tolbert is an efficient free-throw shooter at 88.2 percent and has also contributed on the boards, averaging 4.0 RPG.
  • Last weeks ASUN Freshman of the Week Destiny Jones has been a key presence inside, averaging 9.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Jones is shooting 45.0 percent from the field.
