Queens Women's Basketball Celebrates Senior Night, Aims for Redemption Against North Alabama on Thursday Night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - After an exciting 75-64 victory over Stetson last Saturday, Queens is determined to keep its postseason hopes alive as they continue their fight for the final spot in the ASUN Tournament. The win over Stetson was a significant milestone for the Royals, marking their first nine-win season in the Division I era, surpassing the previous record of eight wins set in 2022-23. It also stands as the highest win total under head coach Jen Brown, showcasing the program's continued growth.

Heading into their matchup against North Alabama, the Royals hold a 9-18 overall record and a 3-13 mark in ASUN play, while the Lions stand at 12-15 overall and 7-8 in conference action. Thursday night will be a special occasion for Queens women's basketball as they celebrate Senior Night, honoring Tiziana Huici, Jordyn Weaver, Aylesha Wade, and Kemia Ward for their contributions to the program.

THE MATCHUPS
This will be the second meeting between Queens and North Alabama this season, with UNA winning the first matchup convincingly, 87-62, at home on January 30. The Royals are 0-3 in the series history against the Lions.

Queens kept the game close early, but UNA pulled away with a dominant second half, fueled by Charity Gallegos, who led all scorers with 20 points and four three pointers. For Queens, Kemia Ward led the Royals with 16 points and five rebounds. Jordyn Weaver contributed 15 points in 32 minutes of action, while Aylesha Wade added 10 points, four rebounds and two steals.

SCOUTING THE ROYALS (9-18 overall, 3-13 ASUN)
  • Queens enters the matchup against North Alabama with a 9-18 overall record and a 3-13 mark in ASUN play. The Royals are coming off a 75-64 win over Stetson, a victory that set a new program high for wins in the Division I era. Despite their close losses  in conference play, Queens has shown improvement and remains in the fight for the final ASUN tournament spot.
  • Queens averages 65.7 points per game while shooting .390 percent from the field and 27.8% from three. The Royals' offense is led by Jordyn Weaver (14.3 PPG, 7.8 RPG), who is the team's most consistent scoring threat and a force on the boards.
  • Defensively, Queens allows 70.9 points per game, with opponents shooting .440 percent from the field and .350 from three. However, the Royals outrebound opponents (37.1 RPG to 35.8 RPG), showing their ability to compete on the glass.
  • Queens averages 8.2 steals per game and rank third in the ASUN, led by Jordyn Weave and Ana Barreto.
  • Jordyn Weaver has been the most consistent and productive player for Queens this season, leading the team in both scoring (14.3 PPG) and rebounding (7.8 RPG). Weaver is an efficient scorer, shooting .496 percent  from the field, which makes her one of the more reliable inside threats in the ASUN. Weaver currently ranks eighth all time in career rebounds (630) and is eight rebounds shy of sixth in program history.
  • Kemia Ward has been an effective post presence for the Royals, averaging 7.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive .538 percent from the field. Ward is also one of Queens' best offensive rebounders, pulling down 73 total offensive rebounds, which helps the team generate second-chance opportunities. Ward is a strong defender in the paint, leading the team in blocks with 42, ranking second in the ASUN.
  • Aylesha Wade provides Queens with a much-needed perimeter shooting presence, averaging 9.0 points per game while knocking down .341 percent of her three-point attempts (28-82). She is also one of the team's most active defenders, tallying 25 steals, which ranks among the team leaders. Wade plays a significant role as a ball-handler and facilitator, leading the team with 69 assists.
SCOUTING THE LIONS (12-15 overall, 7-9 ASUN)
  • North Alabama (UNA) enters the matchup with an overall record of 12-15 and a 7-9 mark in ASUN play. UNA defeated Queens 87-62 on Jan. 30 in a game where the Lions controlled the tempo and shot efficiently. They built a commanding lead early and never allowed Queens to find a rhythm. The Lions have been competitive in conference action but have struggled with consistency, particularly on the road (2-6 in ASUN away games).
  • North Alabama is shooting .426 percent from the field and .355 percent from three-point range in ASUN games, making them a solid shooting team. The Lions also boast a .772 free[1]throw percentage.
  • Defensively, UNA allows opponents to shoot .430 percent from the field and .327 percent from three. The Lions hold a slight rebounding edge in ASUN games (+1.3 margin), led by India Howard (7.9 RPG) and Jazzy Klinge (6.9 RPG).
  • North Alabama averages only 4.7 steals per game, compared to opponents' 8.1, leading to a -3.0 turnover margin. The Lions defense is also allowing 69.9 points per game, which ranks in the lower half of the conference.
  • Charity Gallegos is the heart and soul of North Alabama's offense, leading the team in both scoring (14.4 PPG) and assists (3.8 APG) in ASUN play. Gallegos is a capable shooter from deep (35.7% from three) and a reliable free-throw shooter (85.7% FT).
  • India Howard is the anchor in the paint for UNA, bringing a strong presence on both ends of the floor. She averages 9.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in ASUN action, leading the team in rebounding and efficiency in the post (53.1% FG).
