Queens Faces Jacksonville in First Round of ASUN Championship

OXFORD, ALA. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team will face the #6 Jacksonville Dolphins in the first round of the ASUN Championship on Tuesday, May 7 at 4 PM ET.

#7 Queens Royals - Game Notes and Fast Facts

  • The Royals didn't have a ton to gain when they traveled to the Sunshine State to wind down the regular season, barring a phenomenal weekend Queens were sticking in the seven seed spot for the conference tournament. Queens still took two out of three, though. Autumn Courtney led the road team to a 1-0 victory in game one and a 14-hit effort for the visitors locked up a 7-3 win on Saturday.
  • Queens was a combined 7-11 against Atlantic Sun tournament qualifiers this season. They took two games from each of No. 2 seed North Florida, No. 6 seed Jacksonville, and No. 8 seed Austin Peay. The Royals won one game in their series against No. 3 seed Central Arkansas and were swept by both No. 4 seed Florida Gulf Coast and No. 5 seed North Alabama.
  • This will be the first trip for the Royals to a conference tournament since turning Division I prior to the 2023 season. The last time Queens was in a conference tournament of any kind was the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Tournament when they lost to Lincoln Memorial in Division II play. The last postseason victory for Queens was in the 2018 SAC Championship Quarterfinals against Newberry.
  • A couple of Royals were honored this week by the Atlantic Sun for earning spots on the conference's All-ASUN Second Team, sophomore pitcher Autumn Courtney and senior infielder Kayla Smith. Courtney led the conference in strikeouts (245), which finished second-best in Division I, to go with 20 wins on the year. Smith led Queens in batting average, hits, and home runs. The 56 hits ranked fourth in the league.
  • Sophomore first baseman Lindsey DeRoeck went four for four at the plate and scored two runs in her last game at Jacksonville on Saturday. Senior outfielder Kasidi Staley went three for five in the last couple of games against the Dolphins over the weekend.

#6 Jacksonville Dolphins - Scouting the Opponent

  • Jacksonville entered the final weekend of the regular season looking to move up the ASUN standings to bolster their seed for the postseason, but weren't able to take advantage of their home field advantage. With only the one win for the Dolphins over the weekend, they were stuck in the sixth place spot where they began.
  • The Dolphins were a combined 6-6 against Atlantic Sun opponents who qualified for the conference tournament. They only won one game each in their series against No. 2 seed North Florida, No. 4 seed Florida Gulf Coast, and the No. 7 seed Royals. Jacksonville swept No. 8 seed Austin Peay.
  • Jacksonville is first in the ASUN in walks earned this season with 168. They are also second in runs scored (206), third in doubles (58), third in RBI (185), and third in stolen bases (75).
  • Jacksonville ranks last in the league in fielding percentage (.949) and errors (72). The fielding percentage is also in the bottom 40 of all of Division I, while the number of errors is in the bottom thirty.
  • Senior utility Alilson Bratek is tied for second in the conference in runs scored (34), while senior shortstop Madison Reynolds is tied for second in walks (30).
