Van Keulen and Kusic Lead in Day One of ASUN Outdoor Championships

CONWAY, Ark.--- The Queens University of Charlotte track and field team started the 2024 ASUN Outdoor Championships on fire Thursday as the Royals had athletes advance to finals and lead in the decathlon and heptathlon events.
 
Notable Finishes
  • Job Van Keulen currently leads in the decathlon with 3843 points. He most notably placed first in the 400m and high jump with a time of 49.17 and a best jump of 1.95m.
  • Robin Ott is also third in the event with a score of 3595. Ott finished first in the 100m with a time of 10.89.
  • Emilija Kusic is following up her indoor championship performance nicely as she is currently in first place with a score of 3055.
  • Halle Perry is not too far behind as she is in third with 2933 points. Perry most notably won the 200m with a time of 25.42.
  • Halle Perry also qualified for the 400m hurdles finals as she got the fastest time at 1:02.27.
  • Zak Freeland and Moritz Klessiek advanced to the 1500m finals as they finished with the sixth and ninth fastest times in the prelims.
  • In the men's 10000m, Victor Tvistholm Jorgensen advanced to finals as he finished with the fourth fastest time at 30:51.49.

"Our team kicked off today's competition with a strong start, showcasing multiple impressive performances from earlier this morning. After day one, Job leads the decathlon, with Robin close behind in third place. Job also got fifth place in the open high jump. On the women's side, Emilija Kusic leads the heptathlon after day one, while Halle Perry follows closely in third. Additionally, Halle qualified in 400m hurdles finals as a fastest runner. Zack and Moritz both secured spots in the 1500m finals. Lastly, Viktor wrapped up the day with a strong 4th place in the 10,000m race. Overall, a fantastic day for our team!"
 
What's Next?
Day 2 of the ASUN Outdoor Championships will continue tomorrow Friday May 10th with the decathlon continuing at 10:30 AM.
