Softball Announces Schedule Change at Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Due to predicted inclement weather, the Royals will not face Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C. in a single-game starting at 6:00 PM at Brinkley Stadium.

ROYALS GAME NOTES AND FAST FACTS

- The Royals finished up another home sweep this past weekend, this time over the North Carolina Central Eagles. Over the weekend, Autumn Courtney pitched her fifth solo shutout of the season in a 6-0 win over the NCCU. With five shutouts, Autumn Courtney currently leads all of NCAA Division 1 in solo shutouts, ahead of Emiley Kennedy from Texas A&M and Kasey Ricard from Boston Univ.

- In the shutout, the ASUN Preseason Pitcher of the Year also matched her career-high amount of strikeouts with 15, and only allowed one hit in the outing. 

- This game marks her third time this season pitching 10 or more strikeouts in a single game. 

- The win puts her at a 6-2 overall record, and third in the ASUN in ERA with a 1.08.

Offensively, the Royals were led by Kayla Smith who went 4-7 at the plate this weekend against North Carolina Central. She snagged 3 RBI over the weekend, 2 stolen bases, and had a catch and a putout in game two of the weekend

- Currently, Smith leads the Royals in batting average (.300) and slugging percentage (.520) 

- Aided the Royals in a 10-run win over NCCU….the 10-run win marks the most runs scored by Queens this season, and the most runs scored by Queens since their 11-0 win over North Carolina A&T on Feb. 19, 2023.

 

Scouting the Opponent - GARDNER-WEBB RUNNIN' BULLDOGS
- In the early season, the Runnin' Bulldogs have made their mark with a 14-6 record — most recently defeating North Carolina A&T in a 4-3 score on Sunday, March 3 in the finale of the Spring in the Springs Tournament.

- Andrea Lyon was named the Big South Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 4. The honor marked her second week in a row earning the achievement. Over the week, yon pitched 16.0 innings tabbing 19 strikeouts, a 2-0 record, and a .88 ERA over GWU's 4-0 weekend hosting the Spring in the Springs Tournament. The second of her two wins was a nine inning complete game over Mercer in extra innings.

- On the season, Annicka McLaughlin leads the 'Dawgs with a .364 batting average, while Adrienne Visintine leads with a slugging percentage of .643. Visintine also leads her squad in the long ball with 4 home runs thus far this season.
