Softball Heads to Fort Myers to Begin ASUN Conference Play

FORT MYERS, FLA. — Queens softball begins ASUN conference play Friday, March 16 against Florida Gulf Coast at the FGCU Softball Complex in Fort Myers, Fla. for a 2:00 PM doubleheader start.

Games will be streamed on ESPN Plus, as well as live-started through StatBroadcast. This will be the first meeting for the two teams.
 

Royals Game Notes & Quick Facts

QUEENS ROYALS

- The Royals are coming off a split doubleheader at Radford on Tuesday. Sophomore Autumn Courtney shut the Highlanders down with only one hit and one run with nine strikeouts in the 7-1 game one victory. The Royals fell 9-6 in game two. Ashlyn Mickler went six for six at the plate on the day, marking one of her most efficient offensive days to date.

- Courtney has notched 110 strikeouts on the campaign, which is second best in Division I. She also has five solo shutouts on the year, which is tied for fourth in the country.

- Based on FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching), Autumn Courtney ranks in the top five of all Division I pitchers with a 0.42. Courtney ranks ahead of Alabama & Tennessee pitchers Jaala Torrence and Payton Gottshall.

- Freshman catcher Madison Cantoni currently leads the ASUN in putouts (153).

Scouting the Opponent

FLORIDA GULF COAST EAGLES

- The Eagles have a notable win on the year over #18 Florida State (3-1) on March 8 at their FGCU Spring Break Classic. The Seminoles were the national runner-up to Oklahoma a season ago. That is one of two ACC opponents that Florida Gulf Coast has defeated this season, as they knocked off Boston College twice (2/22 1-0, 2/24 3-1).

- Florida Gulf Coast is the top ranked team in the Atlantic Sun in RPI, with a rating of 67. The only other team in the conference in the top 70 is North Florida (70).

- Senior pitcher Angelina Bonilla was named this week's ASUN Pitcher of the Week by the ASUN. Bonilla is 5-2 and tossed a complete game while giving up only one run in the win over Florida State.
