GAINESVILLE, Fla--- The Queens University of Charlotte track and field team started the 2024 ASUN Indoor Championships off with a bang as the Royals shined in the pentathlon and advanced to finals in multiple events.
Notable Friday Finishes
- Emilija Kusic won the women's pentathlon as she scored 3643 points to capture the gold medal.
- In the pentathlon, Kusic placed first in the 60m hurdles at 8.91, tied for third in the high jump with a jump of 1.56m, placed second in the shot put at 11.25m, and the long jump with a best jump of 5.37m and fourth in the 800m in 2:25.54.
- Halle Perry also placed fourth in the pentathlon with a score of 3547. Freshman Celia Spiess finished sixth with a score of 3292, followed by Mia Milasinovic at seventh with a score of 3266.
- In the men's heptathlon, Job van Keulen is currently in first place with a score of 2890. Robin Ott and Jaroslav Sivuha are each in the fifth and sixth spot with scores of 2790 and 2603. The men's heptathlon final events will be held tomorrow.
- Michael Quigley finished sixth in the long jump with a personal best 6.99m best jump.
- Moritz Klessiek and Zak Freeland advanced to the men's one-mile finals as they finished sixth and eighth in the prelims.
- Kusic also advanced to the 60m hurdles finals as she finished second in the prelims with a time of 8.99.
- In the women's 800m prelims, Evie Wild finished in fifth place with a time of 2:11.18 to advance to the finals.
- In the men's 4000m medley relay, the Royals finished fourth with a time of 9:52.21.

"The team performed exceptionally well after day one. Currently, we're fourth on the women's side and sixth on the men's side. We achieved multiple personal bests, with standout performances from our athletes.
Emilija Kusic shone brightest, clinching gold in the heptathlon, and qualifying for the 60m hurdle race finals.
Halle Perry also impressed, securing fourth place in the heptathlon after breaking four personal records.
Michael Quigley's long jump of 6m 99cm placed him sixth, showcasing an impressive performance.
Job Van Keulen leads the heptathlon after day one, while
Robin Ott holds fifth place, setting the stage for an exciting competition tomorrow. Although our men's DMR finished fourth, missing out on a medal by less than a second, the team demonstrated remarkable resilience.
Evie Wild smashed her personal best in the 800m, earning a spot in the finals. Additionally,
Zak Freeland and Moritz Klessiek qualified for the 1-mile finals. Overall, it was a fantastic day one, and we're poised for even greater success on day two."
