Queens Looks to Extend Win Streak on the Road at Presbyterian College

CLINTON, S.C. - After back-to-back wins over USC Upstate and SC State, the Royals look to extend their win streak to three games for the first time since 2014-2015 against the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Monday night.

THE MATCHUPS 
Presbyterian holds a 2-0 advantage in the series history, most recently with a 60-68 victory last season in Curry Arena. Tiziana Huici contributed 10 points and six rebounds off the bench in the last meeting. Natalie Herrin added 12 points in the win for Presbyterian. The Royals and the Blue Hose met for the first time on Nov. 13, 2004, in a neutral site contest at Belmont Abbey, with Presbyterian winning 85-72. 

SCOUTING THE ROYALS (3-3 overall, 0-0 ASUN) 

  • The Queens University Royals women's basketball team enters the matchup against Presbyterian with a 3-3 record, showing competitive play across their first six games. The Royals average 65.5 points per game, with a balanced scoring attack and room for improvement in three-point shooting. Queens is shooting 31.5 percent on 39-124 attempts from behind the arc as a team.

  • Jordyn Weaver leads the Royals in scoring 12.2 points per game, while shooting 51.8 percent from the field and grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game. Weaver has finished with at least 10 points in the last six games. 

  • Ana Barreto contributes significantly from the perimeter, averaging 11.5 points per game and hitting 42.4 percent from beyond the arc. Barreto continued her hot streak in the win over South Carolina State, tallying her second straight double figure scoring performance. Barreto has gone 9-of-16 shooting from behind the arc in the last two games. 

  • Jermany Mapp adds 10.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, providing versatility to the Royals offense coming off the bench. Mapp paces the Royals, averaging 27.4 minutes per game. 

  • The Royals continue to excel in forcing turnovers, averaging 9.0 steals per game and holding a plus 1.3 turnover margin, while defensively, they are allowing 65.8 points per game. 

SCOUTING THE BLUE HOSE (0-7 overall, 0-0 BIG SOUTH) 

  • Coach Sardin takes the helm for her first season with the Blue Hose, bringing experience from her roles at Saint Louis, Chicago State, Longwood, Boston U, Clemson, Illinois-Chicago, and Mount Olive. 

  • Despite being win less after seven games, the Blue Hose have played against competitive opponents, including losses to Charlotte, Clemson, and Davidson. Their closest games were against South Carolina State (54-59) and UNCW (74-78). 

  • Offensively, the Blue Hose average just 47.9 points per game, averaging a 34.8 field goal percentage and 15.2 percent from beyond the arc. Taking care of the ball on the offensive end has been an area that needs improvement for Presbyterian, averaging 24.3 per game, leading to a considerable under 9.3 turnover margin. 

  • Kishyah Anderson leads the team with 11.4 points per game while shooting an efficient 47 percent from the field. Paige Kindseth is a strong presence on the boards, averaging 6.4 rebounds alongside her 9.3 points per game.  

  • Defensively, Teresa Mbemba and Shelby Fiddler have been active with 2 steals apiece, though the team as a whole averages only 5.1 steals per game. 

  • High Point is the preseason women's Big South favorite for the fourth consecutive year. Radford was second, just ahead of third-place Charleston Southern (55 points).  Winthrop placed fourth in the poll with 53 points (one first-place vote), followed by USC Upstate.  Gardner-Webb landed in the sixth position with 43 points (one first-place vote), with Longwood in seventh place (30 points).  Defending Big South Champion Presbyterian College was eighth with 23 points and received the remaining first-place vote.
