CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens Royals welcome the Wesleyan College Wolves to Curry Arena on Saturday afternoon. This is the second match up between the two teams, with the Royals taking the first meeting 96-36 in Macon, Ga. The win last season against the Wolves marked the largest margin of victory in the Jen Brown era. The Royals are looking to bounce back after a 40-102 loss in the season opener against Wake Forest.

THE MATCHUP
Saturday's contest marks the second all-time meeting between Queens and Wesleyan College. In the 96-36 victory last season marked the first time in the Division I era, Queens held a team scoreless for an entire quarter when they outscored the Wolves 26-0 in the second quarter. The closest they came before this was when they held Pfeiffer to 2 points in the fourth quarter of an 81-29 win to open the 2022-23 season. Jordyn Weaver finished with 16 points in the victory over the Wolves last, while Kaitlyn Adams contributed a career-high nine points, six rebounds, and 15 minutes played.
SCOUTING THE ROYALS (0-1 overall, 0-0 ASUN)

Ana Barreto, Aylesha Wade, and Jermany Mapp contributed valuable minutes in their first games as Royals. Barretto and Wade both finished with seven points and two assist apiece. Mapp added six points and five rebounds and led the team with 25 minutes of action.

Wade leads the way for the 2024-25 Royals transfer class. Wade joins the Royals after three seasons at UNC Charlotte. "Wade is a phenomenal point guard, a phenomenal leader, and phenomenal human being," I can't wait for Royal nation to see her this year," said Brown.

Barreto is a big guard from Ball State. The Portuguese native will be a key addition that will make an impact on both sides of the ball. Barreto played two seasons with the Cardinals.

Mapp will be a veteran leader on the court for the Royals. Mapp will do all the intangibles for Coach Brown's squad, her ability to play four positions on offense and guard all five positions defensively has allowed Coach Brown to open her play book.

Queens is ranked 11th in this year's Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Royals ranked last in the ASUN Preseason Media Coaches Poll.

The Wolves enter their third season as members of the Collegiate Conference of the South.

Welseyan College women's basketball was picked to finish in ninth with ten points in the Preseason Poll, voted by the league's nine head coaches. Asbury University was selected as the top contender in the CCS.

Coach Lauren "Cocoa" Falohun enters her second season leading the Wolves. Coach Cocoa has a 2-17 overall record in two years.

Coach Cocoa comes to Wesleyan with 13 years of experience and brings with her a plethora of basketball knowledge from her time coaching and career playing at the University of South Carolina.

The Wolves are an incredibly young team on paper, adding 13 freshmen to the roster and bringing back one player from last year's roster.

Briscia Tejada the lone returner for Wesleyan finished her freshman campaign averaging 1.89 points per game, 996 rebounds, and a 37.50 free throw percentage. The Wolves finished last season with wins over Johnson (FL) and Covenant. Wesleyan defeated (NAIA) Johnson 53-45 and CCS foe Covenant 62-55.
