SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After three straight home games, the Royals are set to hit the road for the second time this season. Queens will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate in a Friday night non-conference women's basketball contest. The Royals will look to bounce back after dropping Monday night's contest against Longwood.

THE MATCHUPS
This is the eighth meeting between Queens and USC Upstate teams with the Royals behind in the series 2-5. The Royals have won back-to-back meetings since transitioning to Division I. The Royals earned a 61-51 victory last season in Curry Arena.

On the offensive side of the ball, Jordyn Weaver leads the Royals with a 57.5 percent field goal percentage. Weaver is averaging 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, scoring in double figures in all four games for Queens.

In her first game back for the Royals, Kemia Ward had a solid two-way game against Longwood, scoring 10 points on 5-for-8 shooting. She grabbed 4 rebounds and added 4 blocks, anchoring the Royals' defense in the paint.

Despite their scoring challenges, the Royals defensive effort has led to 8.5 steals and 4.3 blocks per game, showing potential for disruptive play. Magda Freire and Tiziana Huici lead the Royals with five steals a piece.

USC Upstate opened with a lopsided 43-98 loss to Kentucky, overwhelmed by their opponent's offensive dominance. In closer match ups, they fell to UNC Greensboro 54-62, showing some resilience but struggling to close the gap. Their sole victory came against South Carolina State, a 60-52 win.

USC Upstate women's basketball team was chosen to finish fifth in the 2024-25 Big South Conference Preseason Poll. The Spartans received 51 points in the voting to finish ahead of Gardner-Webb (43 points, one first-place vote), Longwood (30 points), Presbyterian (23 points, one first-place vote) and UNC Asheville (17). High Point was picked to repeat as Big South champions with 76 points in the voting including five first-place votes.
