WEEKEND PREVIEW: Royals Battle Hokies On Friday Night

BLACKSBURG, VA. — The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team heads into their last scheduled non-conference tournament at Virginia Tech this weekend, facing the Hokies on Friday, September 15 for a 6:00 PM slated first-serve. Fans can keep up with live stats and live action on SidearmStats and ESPN+/ACCNX.

ROYALS NOTES:
- The four-team tournament includes Duquesne, Virginia Tech, Queens, and East Carolina. Dependent upon Friday night's match results, Queens will either play Duquesne or East Carolina on Saturday, September 16 for a 1:00 PM start.

- Queens finished up the self-hosted Queens Classic on Saturday, fighting a tough battle with the Furman Paladins — falling 3-1 after putting up a fight in the second set with a 27-25 win.

Jordyn Johnson tallied career-high matching 16 kills and grabbed a double-double including 17 digs.

-Queens finished the match hitting .071 as a team while compiling 72 digs, 44 kills, and seven blocks.

- Kendall Buish tallied 38 assists while Kayla McDuffie snagged three blocks.

- To date, the ASUN rankings place Jesse George in 4th in digs per set (4.5), Kendall Buish in 9th in assists per set (7.63), Alleigh Johnson (4th) and Jordyn Johnson (8th) in service aces per set (.47, .41).

- Jesse George earned her second all-tournament honor on the weekend, snagging a total 39 digs in three matches.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH/DUQUESNE/EAST CAROLINA:

VT: The Hokies are sitting at a perfect 9-0 record, most recently coming off a 3-1 win over the Farleigh Dickenson Knights in the Steel Classic. Currently, Leandra Mangual-Duran leads the team in kills (84), Cara Lewis leads in total blocks (31), and Hanna Borer in assists (309).

ECU: With a 7-2 record on the year, the Pirates look to their fourth win in a row after snagging victories against Norfolk State, UNCW, and Alabama State. Angeles Alderete leads the ship with 83 total kills while Carlia Northcross sits with a team-leading 39 blocks. In assists, the duo of Julianna Askew and Payton Evenstad have put up 139 each.

DUQUESNE: The Dukes, currently tallying a 5-1 overall record, have only had one match go into five sets in the 2023 season. Their only loss comes from their match on Aug. 26 against Binghampton, where the Bearcats put up a solid .228 hitting percentage. For the Dukes, Avery Hobson leads with 89 total kills, Chloe Wilmot has produced 271 assists, and Jordan Robertson leads the block with 24.
