CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team battled Davidson College through five sets Friday night inside Curry Arena, but the Royals fell 3-2 (15-25, 25-19, 25-22, 18-25, 12-15).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Davidson claimed the opening set 25-15 before Queens responded with back-to-back set victories. The Royals took the second set 25-19 and followed with a 25-22 win in the third to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
- Queens trailed 22-20 in the third before tying the set at 22-22. The Royals then closed the frame with three straight points to take the lead in the match.
- Davidson answered in the fourth set, taking a 25-18 decision to force a fifth set.
- The Royals opened the deciding frame with an early lead and held an 8-5 advantage. Davidson responded with three straight points to tie the set at 8-8. The teams continued to trade points, with Queens tying the score at 11-11 before Davidson scored four of the final five points to secure the 15-12 victory.
- Emma Norris led the Royals offensively with 16 kills on 36 attacks while hitting .333. She added two blocks and finished with 17 points.
- Callie DeSchryver recorded nine kills, nine digs and three blocks, including one solo block. She also added an ace and finished with 12 points.
- Queens finished the night with 48 kills and eight service aces while recording eight total blocks.
POSTMATCH COMMENTS
I thought we did a great job tonight battling through difficult moments," head coach Matt Stolz said. "We made lineup changes and I thought the team did a great job of adjusting to difficult situations. I am proud of the group for fighting; we need to continue to improve so that we can win big matches."
