ATLANTA, GA--- Queens University of Charlotte women's track and field standout Melanie Welsing was named ASUN Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in program history since the transition to Division 1, as announced by the league on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Richmond, Ky native was great as she broke records and won events in the heptathlon and individuals. At the David Noble Relays, Welsing had four personal bests including a 13.28 finish in the 100H, 1.77m jump in the High Jump, over 11m in the shotput, and a 24.16 200m. Welsing is now the number one ranked hurdler in the ASUN and #25 in NCAA D1. Welsing also broke the school record in the heptathlon with 5,634 pts and in the 100m hurdle as she won with a time of 13.39.

 "This was a historic performance for Melanie. Without a doubt the best performance ever by a Queens Track & Field Athlete in Program history. With 3 marks ranking within the top 30 in NCAA DI, this is a challenging feat to accomplish across an entire season let alone in one meet. It is great to see Melanie's hard work along with her belief in herself and Coach Pesic show through. This was a 951pt personal best in the Heptathlon. She also secured 5 other personal bests within the event. The best part is that while this is an accomplishment, there are much bigger goals in front of Melanie as we approach the Championship Season!"
