Stacey Schramm Steps Down as Queens Head Softball Coach

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Stacey Schramm has stepped down as head softball coach at Queens University of Charlotte, director of athletics Cherie Swarthout announced today.

"It is never easy to say goodbye to a person who not only chose Queens once but twice," Swarthout stated. "I would like to thank Stacey Schramm for her passion and commitment to her student-athletes throughout her service. She was instrumental in helping Royals Rise on the field, in the classroom, in the community, and beyond."

Schramm, in her second stint with the Royals, led the program from 2008-2010 before returning ahead of the 2017 season. In that time, she has accumulated a record of 189-181 making her the winningest head coach in Queens' softball program history. The 18-year head coach has an overall record of 383-414-4 having made stops at DII Wheeling and DI George Washington in addition to Queens.

The Royals have made three NCAA Championship appearances with Schramm at the helm and they have won two conference championship tournaments. In addition, she has coached a conference pitcher of the year and two conference tournament MVPs along with 17 all-conference and nine all-tournament team honorees.

Queens' most successful season under Schramm came in 2018 when the Royals posted a 35-17 record. A 16-3 start that season would be the best start for the program in over 20 years. The Royals earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional Championships following the regular season to make their fourth overall appearance in the Championships. Additionally, Schramm crossed the 300-career win mark during the 2018 season.

"I have decided to step away from coaching and although it may not appear to be the best time, my players, assistant coaches, and Cherie Swarthout support and understand my decision," Schramm commented. "I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the program into Division I. I trust that the team will continue to build a solid foundation for the future of the program."

The Royals are currently competing in their first NCAA DI season as a member of the ASUN Conference. Their record sits at 8-9 after they opened their season with a notable win over App State. They have since earned wins over Winthrop, NC A&T, USC Upstate, Drexel, and Buffalo.

Kella Goins will be elevated to interim head coach for the remainder of the 2023 season.
