Four Royals Land ASUN Postseason Honors and Awards

ATLANTA, GA. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team was well represented on the 2023 Atlantic Sun Postseason Honors and Awards which were released by the league on Friday afternoon. Michel Feldman and Samuel Idinge were named Second Team All-Conference, Evan Morris was named to the All-Freshman Team, and Mario Goic landed All-Academic recognition.

"I just want to say congratulations and I'm very proud of our All-Conference selections," said head coach Oliver Carias. "Their performances are a reflection of our team's commitment and determination to finish our season in the best possible way. They have helped us finish ranked fourth in the conference with three straight wins and nine goals scored in our last three matches. We look forward to having them lead us this weekend in our conference tournament."

Sophomore Michel Feldman had a standout season in his second year in the Queen City. The Frankfurt, Germany native led the team in points (17), goals (6), and assists (5). The marks were good enough for a top 10 ranking in the ASUN across all three categories. Feldman found his groove at the end of the season netting all six goals in four of the final five matches. The most significant goal of the season was the game-winner in the 87th minute against FGCU clinching the Royals first-ever ASUN Tournament appearance. Feldman was tied for the league lead in game-winning goals with three.

Joining Feldman on the second-team list was junior defender Samuel Idinge. The veteran center-back played every minute of the regular season which was the most amongst any player in the league. The St. Petersburg native scored two goals on the year, including a game-winner against Winthrop. In the pivotal regular-season finale, Idinge netted the equalizer in the 72nd minute setting up the game-winner from Feldman. As the leader of the backline, Idinge helped the Royals post four clean sheets which was tied for the ASUN high.

In his first season with the Royals, freshman goalkeeper Evan Morris was solid posting a 4-4-2 record and three clean sheets. The week nine ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week ranked top three in the league in goals-against average, saves, saves per game, and shutouts per game. Morris faced double-digit shots in all 10 starts and pulled in a career-high eight saves against Wofford.

In the classroom, senior Mario Goic earned ASUN All-Academic Team recognition. Goic holds a 3.70 GPA while studying Marketing. On the pitch, the Croatia native appeared in 11 matches and finished second on the team in points behind three goals and an assist. In the season opener against Winthrop, the forward scored a goal and recorded an assist leading the Royals to victory.

The four Royals join Filipe Mendonca and Boris Basara as Queens players represented on the ASUN postseason honors. Mendonca was named Second Team All-Conference while Basara garnered All-Academic praise in 2022.

Queens is set to make their first ASUN Tournament appearance on Saturday, November 4th in Nashville, Tennessee. The fourth-seeded Royals will square off against the fifth-seeded Central Arkansas Bears at Lipscomb University at 7:00 p.m. ET. The winner of the quarterfinals match will advance to face the top-seeded Lipscomb Bisons in the semifinals on Monday, November 6th.
