Queens Women's Basketball Adds Marc Wilson to Coaching Staff

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte Head Women's Basketball Coach Jen Brown has announced the addition of Marc Wilson to her staff as an assistant coach. Wilson comes to Queens bringing 22 years of Division I-level coaching experience with a specialization in recruiting and player development. Most recently, he spent last season at Utah State University.

"Marc adds 22 years of coaching experience as well as a ton of recruiting connections to my staff," Coach Brown stated. "He has a proven ability to establish rapport with student-athletes, parents, and supporters. Marc is extremely excited to be a part of our Royals family. Our student-athletes are really going to love having him as a part of the program."

During his time at Utah State, Wilson assisted the team in achieving a significant win increase from the previous. Furthermore, he was pivotal in the development of All-Mountain West Honorable Mention honoree Adryana Quezada, who ranked top 10 in several statistical categories while averaging 17.6 points per game. She also recorded six double-doubles on the season.

Prior to his time at Utah State, Wilson spent the 2019-20 season in the same role at Cleveland State, where he helped the Vikings to a 21-11 record, marking just their third 20-win season in program history. The program also reached the Horizon League Conference Tournament Semifinals for the first time in five years. Additionally, Wilson helped develop three All Horizon League Conference players.

"I'm excited and grateful to be joining Coach Brown on this new journey as Queens transitions to DI," Wilson commented. "Im looking forward to putting in the work to assist Coach Brown in presenting a product that the administration, the community, and Royals nation will be proud of both on and off the court."

Prior to his time at Cleveland State, Wilson spent the 2017-18 season as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Southeast Missouri State, where he coached the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Adrianna Murphy. He also helped develop the Redhawks into one of the top defensive teams in the conference as they went from having the 12th ranked defense in the league the previous season to having one of the OVC's top-5 defenses.

Wilson also spent three seasons at Clemson (2013-16) as the team's defensive coordinator and assistant coach. He held the same role at UAB from 2009-13, heading a defense which led Conference USA in scoring defense for three-straight seasons. In 2011-12, the Blazers allowed just 49.1 points per game, the third-best mark in the country. They also earned a bid to the WNIT in 2013, and were the Women's Basketball Invitational Champion in 2011.

Coaching stops for Wilson also include Indiana University (2006-2009), Kent State University (2004-2006), and the University of Rhode Island (2001-2004). At Indiana, he helped the Hoosiers to three-straight WNIT appearances, while Kent State went 42-18 during Wilson's tenure and appeared in the MAC championship game each season. During his three seasons at Rhode Island, the program made an Atlantic 10 Championship appearance.

Wilson's collegiate coaching career began at his alma mater, Minnesota (1997-2001). While there, Wilson recruited some of the country's top basketball players, including two WNBA draft picks in Lindsay Whalen (Minnesota, 2004, No. 4 overall to the Connecticut Sun), Janel McCarville (Minnesota, 2005, No. 1 overall to Charlotte Sting). He also recruited Jori Davis while at Indiana (Indiana, 2011, No. 33 overall to Indiana Fever).

Wilson completed his collegiate playing career at Minnesota as a member of the school's top-10 all-time scoring, assists and steals lists. He was a team co-captain and MVP in 1986, and earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors in 1983 and 1986. Additionally, he earned a degree in sociology with a concentration in criminology, law, and behavior.

Wilson closed stating, "Coach Brown has the passion, the vision, the knowledge, and understanding of what it takes to compete at the highest level, and I'm here to help her achieve those goals. I'm so blessed to be a part of the Queens women's basketball program and its great University tradition!"
