Alanis Named SAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens University of Charlotte's Fatima Alanis has been named the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced on Wednesday (March 23).
 
Alanis, a freshman from Coahuila, Mexico, led the Royals to the 2022 SAC Indoor Women's Track & Field Championship and was named the Women's Athlete of the Meet and Freshman of the Year. She won the SAC Championship in the women's mile, the 3,000-meter run, the 5,000-meter run, and was part of the winning distance medley relay team. For her efforts, Alanis earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in all four events and was named an All-American in three events after finishing second in the 5,000m and fifth in the 3,000m at the 2022 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship. 
 
Additionally, Alanis set a new Queens record in the 5,000m and set new SAC Championship marks in the mile (4:59.28), the 5,000m (16:57.80), and the 3,000m (9:35.51).
 
The SAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year award is determined by a vote by the league's head coaches.
