GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's swimming teams had another incredibly successful day in the pool at the 2022 DII National Championships. The Royals took home five National Championship titles on day three as they both lead heading into the final day of action tomorrow. The women have totaled 405.5 points holding a 93.5-point lead over second place Indy and the men have totaled 470.5 points holding an 85.5-point lead over second place Drury.

The evening opened with the women's 500-yard freestyle which saw a pair of Royals finish in the top three.
Sophia Lange put together a remarkable effort and took second place just .08 seconds off the winner, Kate Agger from Wingate who took the gold with a time of 4:48.02. Shortly behind Lange was
Monica Gumina who took bronze with a time of 4:51.07. In the consolation final, sophomore
Rebecca Dany placed fifth with a time of 4:55.23 earning Honorable Mention All-American.

In the women's 100-yard backstroke,
Vladyslava Maznytska earned All-American honors with a sixth-place finish of 54.74. In the consolation final,
Caroline Lawrence grabbed second with a time of 55.17 garnering Honorable Mention All-American praise.

History was made in the 100-yard breaststroke as
Danielle Melilli grabbed the top spot with a time of 1:00.11. The impressive time broke the Royals program record for the 100-yard breaststroke which was held by Shelly Prayson since March 15, 2019. In the consolation final,
Maike Jung finished seventh with a time of 1:03.77 earning Honorable Mention All-American nods.

Cece Mayer,
Kayla Tennant, and Sophie Lange would earn Honorable Mention All-American recognition for their efforts in the 200-yard butterfly consolation finals.

In the sole relay event of the night for the women, Queens dominated the water as
Monica Gumina,
Tova Andersson,
Giulia Grasso, and
Caroline Lawrence took gold with a time 7:18.68.

On the men's side, the Royals kicked off the evening with a pair of swims in the 500-yard freestyle championship finals earning All-American nods.
Luke Erwee placed fourth with a time of 4:23.74 while
Mohamed Hegazy took eighth at 4:32.94.

In the 100-yard backstroke finals, junior
Finn Howard was incredible making a late push and taking gold with a time of 45.82 which was 0.08 seconds faster than the runner up.
Alexander Bauch would also earn All-American honors for a sixth-place performance with a time of 46.62.

Jan Delkeskamp and
Balazs Berecz would each get Honorable Mention All-American nods for a fifth and sixth place finish in the consolation finals of the 100-yard breaststroke.

Queens would dominate the 200-yard butterfly as
Alex Kunert and
Yannick Plasil posted top four finishes in the championship finals. Kunert would grab gold with a time of 1:42.44 and Plasil took fourth at 1:44.21.

Rounding out day three action was the 800-yard freestyle relay and the Royals cruised to a gold medal finish. The grouping of
Skyler Cook-Weeks,
Balazs Berecz,
Luke Erwee, and
Alex Kunert would dominate their opposition taking first by four full seconds with a time of 6:24.97.

The Royals will return to the pool tomorrow, March 12 for the final day of the NCAA Championships. Queens will look to hold onto their leads and secure their seventh straight National Championship title. Be sure to secure your tickets by visiting the official ticketÂ
