Royals Impress on Day Two of Conference Championships

RESULTS
 
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's swimming teams dominated day two of the 2022 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships with seven victories and hold the lead on both sides halfway through the championships. Queens managed to carry over their momentum and dominance from an exciting day one that saw them leading thanks to nine first place finishes and four conference records.
 
Following a great preliminary run in the morning, the Royals women kicked off the evening with an outstanding run in the 100-yard butterfly. Cece Mayer posted a first-place finish with an 'A' cut time of 53.05 which automatically qualifies the graduate student for the NCAA Championships in Greensboro. Kayla Tennant would grab second in the event shortly behind Mayer with a 'B' cut time of 54.59. Natalie Van Noy and Maike Jung would round out the Royals encouraging performances with solid swims, including a 'B' cut time from Van Noy.
 
In the 400-yard I.M., Tova Andersson earned a top spot finish with a 'B' cut time of 4:22.53. Hannah Foster would continue a great start at the championships with a third-place finish and 'B' cut time of 4:25.40. Amber Rydzewski rounded out the Royals with all-conference nods in the event.
 
The 200-yard freestyle saw the Royals control the event with six swimmers in the top eight, including the top five spots. Monica Gumina highlighted the event with a first-place finish on an 'A' cut time of 1:47.03. Giulia Grasso, Danielle Melilli, Caroline Lawrence, and Rebecca Dany would finish in order with 'B' cut times. Anna De Boer would round out the Royals commanding swim with a 1:54.10 time.
 
The Royals women would close out the evening with a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Vladyslava Maznytska, Danielle Melilli, Cece Mayer, and Tova Andersson would grab the top spot on a 'B' cut time of 3:40.75.
 
Queens also managed to have three great swims in the 50-yard freestyle time trial. Ryley Heck posted a 'B' cut time of 23.82, Vladyslava Maznytska finished at 24.14, and Natalie Van Noy recorded a 24.16 time.
 
The Royals men had another incredibly successful evening at the championships beginning with the 100-yard butterfly. Matej Dusa and Alexander Bauch took the top two spots with 'B' cut times of 47.34 and 47.90, respectively. David Hjort would earn all-conference honors with a 'B' cut time of 48.59 and Conner Wang recorded a 'B' cut time of 48.69.
 
In the 400-yard I.M., five Royals finished in the top eight, all with 'B' cut performances. Mohamed Hegazy took the crown with a time of 3:51.18 and Yannick Plasil, Jan Delkeskamp, Aidan Henry, and Andreas Marz would round out the event.
 
Queens had a great showing in the 200-yard freestyle as Balazs Berecz and Luke Erwee would take second and third, respectively with 'B' cut times. Skyler Cook-Weeks and Alex Kunert would also record great swims in the event for the Royals with 'B' cut times.
 
The Royals men rounded out the evening with the 400-yard medley relay and took first place with a 'B' cut time of 3:12.08. Finn Howard, Balazs Berecz, Conner Wang, and Matej Dusa teamed up and worked together to earn the Royals valuable first-place points defeating Wingate's 'A' relay team by just over a second.
 
Queens also had success in the timed trials as Morgan Myers earned a 'B' cut time in the 50-yard freestyle. Ethan Payne would also swim in the time trial and finish just under a tenth of a second off of a 'B' cut time. In the 100-yard butterfly time trial, Reece Gallager posted a time of 50.12 which is just shy of a 'B' cut time as well.
 
Through two days at the championships, both the women and men sit at first place in the rankings. The women have accumulated 988 team points and the men have earned 983.
 
The Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships will continue tomorrow, Feb. 12 at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.
