CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team earned the fourth overall seed in the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Women's Volleyball Championships that begins tomorrow, April 6. By finishing among the top four teams in the League following the conclusion of the regular season, the Royals earned the right to host a quarterfinal match on their home floor.
Queens (6-4, 6-4, SAC) will host fifth-seeded Mars Hill University (5-4, 5-4 SAC) at 7 p.m. inside Curry Arena. In addition to a limited attendance policy, fans can follow the action live through live stats and video on the Queens Sports Network.
SERIES HISTORY
-Tuesday marks the 23
rd all-time meeting between Queens and Mars Hill with the Royals holding a slight 13-9 lead in the series. Queens is 8-2 overall in the last 10 meetings and hold an identical 8-2 record against Mars Hill in Charlotte.
-The Royals and Lions last met on March 16 in Mars Hill, N.C. where MHU collected a 3-1 win on its home floor. It was a defensive battle throughout the night as the two sides combined for 203 total digs. Queens saw four players,
JayCee Jones,
Kate Majewski,
Casey Tarvin and
Chanel Turner, record at least 20 digs in the loss.
LAST TIME OUT
-Queens concluded the 2020-21 regular season on a high note on Saturday, defeating the visiting Pioneers of Tusculum University 3-0 (25-7, 25-23, 25-14) inside Curry Arena. As a team, the Royals hit .271in the match and totaled eight service aces, including two each from Jones,
Brooke Farley, and
Gabbi Montgomery. Tarvin led all players with 15 kills and hit .238 on the outside to go along with seven digs, while Turner and
Logan Witt each finished with seven kills. Jones and Majewski paced the defense with 12 and 11 digs, respectively, Farley tallied 26 assists and seven digs.
-Mars Hill ended the 2021 spring season with a 3-0 win over Coker University on Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium. The Lions' defense held Coker to a .028 hitting performance as Jana Cuk led MHU with eight kills followed by seven apiece from Lilly and Goddard. Lilly led the Lions with 12 digs for the double-double. Sara Pasour led the Lions with 17 assists while Jordan Schmucker added 12.
MARS HILL LEADERS
-Junior Jana Cuk leads the Lion offense with 107 kills (3.34/set) and a League-leading .361 hitting percentage after transferring from Florida State College. Grace Lilly and Sarah Goddard provide additional offense on the pins with 85 and 83 kills, respectively, while setters Sara Pasour and Jordan Schmucker has 194 and 126 assists, respectively, in the team's 6-2 rotation.
-On defense, libero Ully Martins leads the SAC with 189 digs and 5.91 digs per set and Cuk has a team-high 21 blocks at the net.
QUEENS LEADERS
-The Queens attack runs through Tarvin on the outside as the senior leads the way with 125 kills (3.68/set) and 10 service aces. Witt hits above the .200 mark in the middle, while Farley and Jones each have a team-high 11 serve aces. Farley guides the offense with 315 total assists.
-Jones is one of the League's top liberos, totaling 181 digs and 5.17 digs per set.
Kate Majewski, Tarvin and Turner each average over three digs per set for the Royals, while Witt and fellow middle
Lindsay Elmore each have over 30 total blocks.
